New Skoda service plan 'poor value for money'

Recommended Posts

While my car was at the dealer I asked about the £299 for 2 services deal I had heard about on here. The guy said that they weren't offering it as it was 'poor value for money', and that a lot of things were excluded. He said they were going to offer their own servicing plan that was 'better value for money' in the next couple of weeks.

I wondered what anyone else thought about the Skoda servicing plan, and exactly what is/isn't included?

If I put my cynical hat on, I might think that dealers don't like it because Skoda UK take a cut, and if they offer their own, they get all of it?

I have taken out this plan on my car & as it covers my 3rd & 4th year services it will save me money, mine will get it brake fluid changed at it 3rd year service & all filters & spark plugs at its 4th year service & i also get a free mot with this plan so when you add the costs together for a 3rd & 4th year service & mot it ends up more than £299!! This is how it works out for me,i dont know if it would be such good value if it only covered your 1st & 2nd year services as these are just glorified oil changes.

My car is 2.5 year old, so it sounds as though it might be worth it for me, then...

I'll be interested to see what alternative servicing plan my dealer comes up with.

Lately - signing up for this plan has also been offered with £100 Skoda merchandise vouchers thrown in for free too.

At least DM Keith Bradford Skoda were offering this last i was in the showroom.

Seems a tempting offer if you know you will use the vouchers and get MOT's done cheap.

Been offered this deal this week (2 services for £299).

Have 2nd service due end of the month on my now 3 year old car, had from new. Had 1st variable service at 2 years, changed to fixed as agreed with dealer that my approx 5000m a year use warranted better care..

Would this 2 year deal cover me for the cambelt change due at 4 years? (ie service after the one due this month) If so, it would be well worth me going for it... Anyone know if its covered? (doubtful surely!)

Thanks..

IIRC the small print excludes cambelt.

I took this out for services 1 & 2. I wanted to shell out now and cut outgoings, plus it forces me into a fixed service routine for 2 years, which is better for the car.

I two have taken this route switched to fix servicing. The service play is not a good buy on variable servicing

My 2008 TDi PD 140 Diesel Scout recently had it's second fixed service (2 years / 18,000 miles) which cost me just over £200.

Just phoned DMKeith Skoda in York.

They too are offering the £299 service deal.

If I sign up it will cover my next third and fourth service. They tell me my next service (third) is only a basic oil and filter change, but that the fourth service is a major which will require a cambelt.

The cambelt is not covered under the plan so there will be additional parts and labour to pay at the fourth service, but the plan does include brake fluid, fuel and pollen filters.

I know an independant will work out much cheaper but I'm happy to pay a premium for a Skoda service history.

There is also £100 worth of vouchers that can be used on genuine Skoda accessories or be put towards parts that may be needed during any of the services (discs, pads, cambelt etc.)

They assure me that the £299 service plan means I will save money. Does this sound right? If I pay for my third and fourth service seperately is it likely to exceed £299 (excluding the cambelt)?

Many thanks.

I purchased my octy from dm kieth york a couple of months ago & have got this plan on mine.

The guy I spoke to wasn't sure if the parts voucher value was £50 or £100, which did you get?

Was your vRS bought new? Which two services will it cover for you?

My vrs was just under 2 years old when i bought it so they carried out the 2 year service early as part of the deal so the plan will pay for my 3 yearly service(inc brake fluid change) & the big 4 yearly service(plugs & all filters)there was no mention of these vouchers that other people have talked about so i havent got any,i dont know if its only a retail freebie or they have took the p*ss & not given me any.........i shall find out! :)

The guy on the phone wasn't going to volunteer the information on the vouchers, I had to ask!

If they are valued at £100 as mentioned earlier inthis thread then that's two services for £199, sounds like a no brainer for me!

For my 30k a year the £299 is too much money, even if they are offering £100 vouchers. I'd need three in 2 years and theres a lot not coverd for the £900

I pay about £72 a month which includes: servicing, all fluids, brake discs, pads and tyres whenever they are needed. and also things like Wheel alignment, cambelt, bushes, wiper blades, brake fluid change and suprisingly even bulbs!

With tyres costing £270 for a pair that will need changing every 12-16k its worth it just for that.

I know that in the 3 1/2 years i'll have the car that pads will need doing twice, discs once and the cambelt once. and an average of 5 tyres a year.

oh well, what's done is done and I have no worry about finding money upfront when it comes to servicing n tyres etc.

I think this plan is very much mileage dependant.

I do around 10,000 miles a year so my car is serviced once a year. Therefore the £299 (or £199 with the vouchers) will last me two years (excluding the additional costs associated with the cambelt at four years).

if thats the mileage you will do then its a great deal. £100 in vouchers will get you a lot.

I had my first part done on Monday. Fixed 2nd year annual service. Before signing up, my local specialist dealer (who is generally reasonable) said my 2nd year service would cost me about £260-£270. The third year service would be at least as much as my first year one, which cost about £120. So I'm saving nearly £100.

Nobody said anything about vouchers. Pity!!

The service itself was excellent - the car feels better than ever - and it was always great. They seem to have eliminated the slight lag on power when pulling away from zero. I didn't mention it as I'd got used to it and it was hardly noticeable - almost as though the mixture was slightly too weak for just that first second or two. Now that has gone and the car is terrific (1.8TSi manual.)

It did include change of brake fluid and pollen filter etc etc.

p.s. can anyone tell me if the 1.8TSi has a cambelt, or is it a chain??

Wow! I just received in the post £100-worth of gift vouchers for any Skoda spares or products. This is part of the "poor value" (?) service deal. I didn't know anything about it when I signed up - and nobody mentioned it or told me to expect it when I went in for the 2 year service recently.

So as well as the deal itself saving me nearly £100 over the two years, I can now go and stock up on (Skoda) wiper blades, screen wash, mats or whatever takes my fancy up to £100.

I call that a pretty generous outcome, especially as there was no mention of it in the original letter I got about the deal, back in September.

Ah so the £100 vouchers come once you've signed up.. Seems like a no brainer to me then, even with the lack of cambelt cover. :)

Anyone know how much the cambelt part of the service would cost?

I think I may well sign up for it... Thanks all.

Yep, it sounds good. No idea why my dealer described it as poor value.

Unfortunately they said they weren't offering the deal. Can I get it from any dealer?

Being an offer from "National" Skoda, I'm surprised they can refuse. But if that is not the case, you can certainly get it from any participating dealer.

My latest blurb about it, and the vouchers, came from Skoda Finance. Might be worth a ring to them to see who's doing what.

I don't think mine has a cambelt. I think they have chains on TSi engines, don't they?

Just signed up this afternoon at DMKeith in York!

£100 voucher is sent through the post once Skoda UK sign you up to the scheme.

The voucher is for a limited time only though.

This plan is only available to those on the fixed rather than variable service intervals.

Two services for £199. Sounds good to me

Just got Rainworth's news letter through the post too which also advertises the plan...

I'm contemplating taking this offer but not sure if I want to move from variable to fixed servicing. Have to give this some thought as I'm probably only really going to need one service over the next 2 years on the variable schedule which will work out cheaper than this does.

Is it easy enough to get the dealer to move me back onto variable at the end of the 2 years or will they try and charge me to make the change?
