VRS Brake Calliper Paint

Featured Replies

A while ago I did a bit of looking into the best paint to redo my brake callipers whithout spending a fortune ordering the one for 30 something quid.

The most common one was Hammerite Smooth Green however I stumbled upon this one today, has anybody had any experience of using this type before? As it is meant for brake callipers i'm presuming it will hopefully last longer than Hammerite will.

Any advice appreciated.

The link isn't loading for me, but I used this stuff on mine: http://www.halfords....tegoryId_165495

Was ok to work with, just sanded/cleaned them down with some thinners and applied with a fine brush. Did them on the car too and they look OK - took about 4 coats per wheel and still ~half a tin left.

Looks a lot better than the cracking and peeling factory finish that had gone all pink with age (could do with a clean though).

could you order 2, and if you actually get smooth green i will give you the cash :giggle:

*Warning* Last time i ordered 'Smooth Green' off of Ebay they sent me dark green, emailed Hammerite and they informed me it was discontinued over2yrs ago........ :S

I found some garage door paint from homebase it's more or less the same shade as the original. It's been on 2 yrs and still looks good.

Regards Chris

The only problem with Garage door paint is it may not stand the heat generated by the brakes. I'm still not sure what temperatures normal Hammerite can withstand. I would probably go for some high temperature paint such as ones designed for brakes and engines.

The alternative is these brake paint kits. Folia Tec Caliper Colour Kit I don't know if that's the cheapest you can buy it from, but it is from one of the site sponsors.

Wrong Green

If you have yellow and blue paint then you can always mix them! Thats what the chap who i've got painting my replacement 312mm calipers has done. It looks okay, i'll have to wait until I see them done to be completely satisfied though!

Mixed hammerite? yea the Gf's dad suggested that......
