Felicia question time....

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Having got Thunderbird 4 back on the road, my thoughts have turned to "upgrades". although my sights at bit lower. (Having just paid for the gearbox etc, am not looking at engine replacement........yet). Moreover am looking at the doors.....leccy windows, central locking and leccy mirrors. Rather than spend time trolling the breakers for "a bit at a time", I was thinking of grabbing a doner car and doing a strip and swap. However, am not sure which trim level had what option(s) on. Can anyone advise on this please? I take it that these trim levels would have the full centre console as well?

Also, and this purely interest at the moment, which ones had air-conditioning? (Just thinking ahead here ;-) )

Did any come with alarms as standard?

Have heard that the immobiliser is a Thatham Cat 1 level. Is this true?

Also heard the words "leather seats" mentioned at some point too. Is this true, and if so, on what ones?

Oh another question: Have thought about installing a 12v fan-heater into the loadspace (from the Truckman), and using an original heater switch in the switch cluster. Were the originals timed or a switch-on / switch-off affair?

Are there any other goodies I should be on the lookout for?

Thanks :-)

Alex

Leather seats were in the L&K models, with leather door cards as well. L&K also had electric windows, C/L and electric mirrors. Bohemias had electric windows and C/L. Most levels had full centre consoles.

I have a set of leather seats and door cards if you're interested, £150.

I'm fairly sure all GLi/GLXi/SLXi models had central locking and electric mirrors as standard. In the slimmed-down post-1999 range, the 'Popular' is basically L/LX spec and the 'Classic' took the GL/GLX level.

The 'Magic' took over from the SLXi as the last top spec edition and has electric windows, passenger airbag and an alarm. The alarm on models that came with one is a pretty standard Laserline affair - you might as well fit any aftermarket alarm, as the only major difference I know of is that cars with a factory fitted one had a few extra connections in the body wiring loom for bits like contact switches for the rear doors - not much use in a Fun!

Aircon I've only seen in post-facelift SLXi models. Parker's reckon it replaced the sunroof for the last 3 months or the 4 or so that model was offered - although mine has both, and there are some other errors in the Parker's equipment list, that seems about right for how common it is! I'll also mention that it would be a hell of a job to swap everything over (not to mention the specialist aircon equipment you'd probably need to dismantle and reassemble the high-pressure bits) and having it installed makes several maintenance jobs far, far more awkward than they otherwise would be. If you're really interested you'd be welcome to have a look at mine sometime when I'm down Tenterden way.

My 1995 GLXi only has a centre console, rev counter, central locking, sunroof, but no electric mirrors or windows. In fact I've NEVER seen a felicia with electric windows, maybe they're hiding from me lol

Hi

Thanks to those who replied, will start looking for a doner soon then.

Thanks for the offer DJay, but a whole set would be wasted on the pickup and I suspect there's not much call for the rear only.

Having seen Skurys "Funny" am thinking maybe sunroof: manual or electric? Worth the effort at all?

Cheers

Alex
