How do you turn on, heated washers?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

As title really, we've been having some bad weather - as you know the north east is bearing the brunt of it all at present - so, i was working yesterday, from 7am until 10pm, and my washers froze up - car said it was -4.5 - but i have heated jets - how do i turn them on? i had every switch on (heated mirrors, screen and rear screen) but made no difference. - of course, the water could have froze in the pipe, before it got to the jet!

Thanks,

Al.

ps.

Here's a few pics :) the Superb is now running 225/40/18 Vredestine Wintrac Xtremes and it is FANTASTIC in the snow... it is the 4x4 version by the way...

Either you don't and they just work, or they'll be wired to the rear screen heater.

i like that car is that standard?

can't say i've seen one before.

Yep,

Standard with a few extras ;)

Chris - i think you might be right, but i just think it's weird that an electrical device has no switch...

I think they're PTC devices, so they switch on when needed.

Where did you get the tyres from?

The look and sound like a worthwhile purchase!!

Tyres were from MyTyres - they are VERY good in the snow..

I found a set of 4 new Luxon alloys on eBay at a good price (and they are like hen's teeth!) and had them fitted to the rims, so i can keep the look of the car, rather than using steel's..

Will take some up-close and personal pics of the fitted to the car if you wish..

According to the manual: "The windscreen washer nozzles are heated* when the ignition is switched on." The asterisk signifies that this accessory is not standard on all models.

I know that I've got them fitted to mine, but have still occasionally suffered from frozen washers. After the engine bay had warmed up a bit they worked again. This could indicate frozen pipework and/or frozen jet nozzles - I never have found out which.

Ray.

My car doesn't have heated washers and never froze over the weekend despite an indicated -5.0C on the car here in the Midlands.

As I've only had the car a week, the screenwash is what came with the car, but my others cars use Decasol screenwash. All year round I use the same concentration; one 500ml bottle screen wash added to 1500ml water and when tested at work, it starts to freeze at about -18C.

The same concentration is good in summer for removing the bugs that end up coating the windscreen.

The nozzles are heated but not the whole system. Your water is frozen in the washer bottle that's why you are not getting a flow.

How can you positively tell that you have heated nozzles? Here in norway it isn't an option when ordering but I expect it might be standard due to our rather harsh & coldish climate.

Have a look at the photos from post #4 in this thread:

p.s. If you have access to the option codes for the specification of your car it is '9T1, Heated washer nozzles, front'.

Hi,

It's bog-standard suspension. some members will look to lower it, but it's just fine for the conditions that it sometimes gets into!

The only "mod" for this weather, is the winter tyres, but these are also in Factory size.

Thanks to all other for their reply - i presume it was just so DAM COLD that the fluid froze in the pipes on the way to the washers... will look to insulate for next year if possible.

My Scout has them:

Heated windshield washer nozzles: Option number "9T1" it cost me 26 euros when i orederd the car.

Nice tires btw, i just put on some Conti TS830

Good looking car that Alan.

Will have one of them on my shortlist next time a new car is being considered.

(I'm not completely blinkered to other manufacturers, but the shortlist still only has Yeti and Superb on it ! - none of the opposition appeals so far)
