bad weather electrical fault

Featured Replies

I have an 04 fabia sdi hatchback.

I'll start off by describing what happens.

I was driving home on christmas day and went over the white lines of a junction and my ABS and Power stearing warning lights came on. I drove the car home as it was and in the drive I tried to start the car again but it wouldn't turn over as if the battery had no power. At first I thort the alternator was faulty or a funny connection between the alternator and battery. The battery was holding 11v when I tested it. The next day I jump started it by towing it behind my brother's car as jump leads didnt work and drove it to his house approx 5 miles, the power steering light came on again, when I got to his drive I turned it off and on and everything was fine.

I dont think it is an alternator or battery as it is holding charge after a journey. I am thinking due to the weather that it may be condensation or water on one of the circuits.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advise for me to diagnose the problem?

Thanks in advance

I’d had similar problems - I have a 06 1.4TDI Fabia.

Let my car running one morning for 15-20 minutes to defrost. Set of turning the wheels and steering went heavy, looked at instruments and showed power steering light and abs. Switched car off restarted everything ok. Drove off again and same again along with ECU and glow plugs lights. Reversed car on drive switched off and tried to restart – NOTHING, no lights no noise. Left car 5 minutes tried again and everything was fine, went to work no problems. The following days had various lights showing on instruments but didn’t stop car from running. As the weather has warm up all issues seemed to have gone away touch wood
