And when they inspect your car they will do everything in their power to give you less by picking out everything that may or may not be wrong. At the end of the day you wont even get what they quote online.

I looked at it a few months ago and it was way less than what other valuation sites gave (Parkers, what car etc).

So it's should called "We buy any car for less".com

And your actually suprised in this?

Its how they make their money, feeding on the desperate, needy or downright clueless.

Exactly! Glad you posted this, as was about to do the same.

Its a called a business. They are going to try and make money. If people want to use their service, they pay the price. If they dont, they wont :)

Ok - but what happens to the cars afterwards??

It is a bit of a scam really - if you fully declare all of the absolute tiniest marks and deficiencies, and they still haggle you down on the price offered on the website. They know you have gathered your documents and committed to selling to them and will probably accept less as otherwise it means you going back home with no money and having to sell it yourself.

I ran my old 306 through this site for a laugh....Came back at £500, i sold it private for £2,000...You work it out lol!

They would apparently give me £3,180 for my vRS...Naff off lol

+1

they come through auctions under CC Trade Sales or UK Car Group - most of them will be damaged or have lots of faults.

I got a quote on my old Polo G40 - £50 - bite me - sold it private for £2200!

Cleaned up and sold on through car auctions/supermarkets.

Which will give them a low trade price hence them giving you a even lower than trade price so they can make money on it.

how could you sell a G40 :'(

Anyone who thinks this is a scam is a bit dim. They offer you a price, you either take it or refuse. Your not forced, or duped into selling it, they don't steal your keys, it's YOUR choice. It's not a scam, it's a business.

True, but they do put on the pressure!

Expect an email every day or two after getting a quote, listing all the reasons you shouldn't sell privately / trade in / etc.

It took alot of thinking - but I used the money for modding my VRS. I sold the G40 the day before I bought the VRS - the guy who bought it off me blew it up. My mate bought it for £400 - rebuilt the engine sold all the goodies I put on it and turned it back to totally std then sold it on for £1400!

Oh, better sell my car for 4k less than its worth because someone sends me a few mails, junk mail filter, sorted.

Matt

I suppose it depends on what your view of a scam is. If we take the perspective it's okay because a price is agreed on and there's no forcing or duping, then perhaps the salesmen who go visit old people and be their "friends" then sell them something like a £2000 bed, aren't all that bad, because they aren't grabbing their purse/wallet and a price is agreed on, and well if the old person wants to spend their savings on an overpriced bed good on them.

To me WBAC is akin to going to Tescos, adding up all the prices on the shelf for your shopping, going to the till to have them say "actually your shopping is £10 more because we've decided these items are worth a bit more than the price we told you - do you still want your shopping?"

Iv always thought a scam was when you are deceived out of money. If your told how much you'll get before you sign the car away, then you are making a choice which is informed. Or am I missing something, and when you get there you sign the car away then they say they're giving you half what they offered, but it's too late cos you've done it?!

No, you've not missed anything and this doesn't happen. It's exactly like selling to a private seller - they'll turn up, pick your car to bits, and make you the lowest offer they think you'll still be interested in.

The difference is that they'll definitely turn up, they'll definitely give you a price for your car, and they definitely won't test-drive your car with no intention of buying. It's a convenient way to offload a car quickly, and this is reflected in the amount they offer.

and they like anyone are in buisness to make money, so unfortunaly so you know there going to get the best deal! emoticon-0106-crying.gif

This company were actively criticised by "Which" - the Consumers Association - when they ran a test on used car sales sites. Their advice was something akin to "don't touch them with a bargepole".

I agree that if you're desperate, you can take whatever money is offered and your car is gone. As they say, "business is business", but,as "Which" says, there are businesses and then there are businesses...
