The vRS has landed

Featured Replies

My Race Blue vRS landed this morning. CR DSG, rear parking sensors, spare wheel and iPod connector. Looks gorgeous in the flesh but soon ripped the grill and lights off to fit some Ring Xenon bulbs and a colour coded grill.

Pics after my dinner.....cos I'm starving

Been waiting for these colour coded grille pics for weeks now!

Okay, here goes from birth to full frontal attack to a better looking car! (IMHO) Many other things to follow including Eibach Pro Kit, Cupra 345mm front brakes, mild tinting and the fitting of a discrete spoiler (sprayed just awaiting a warm day. I will be waiting a while........)

Old and the new

Inspired by a French car in the 'Your doing it right' thread a while back. Looks nice and discrete

Just been out for a 'spirited' drive. What a car....

Couple of questions

1) Jumbo box. Where and what is it?

2) MDI for the iPod. Is it the small input in the glove box which requires another cable to the iPod?

1. Its the centre armrest. Daft name, agree. It's not remotely 'jumboey' !

2. Yes, that's right. They don't give you any cables to use it, which is useful and nice :wonder:

Ipod and USB versions available. Have a look on eBay for deals or they're circa £20 EACH, from the dealer....

USB MDI cable example:

Great info thanks mate

No worries. I'd have got them to throw in the appropriate MDI cable for you, but you probably didn't know you needed to ask!

Interface is good for either a USB stick or portable hard drive on the appropriate cable, or obviously an iPod on the right cable

If you use a portable HDD then it must be formatted as a FAT32 - MDI will not read NT formatted disks. Windows XP will only format FAT32 up to 32Gb so for a larger drive (I use an 80Gb) you need to find a formatter.

Unless you already have an ipod with all your music collection on it then MDI is a complete waste of money. I have around 18Gb of CDs on my HDD - they would all fit on a 32Mb SDHC card with room to spare and I wouldn't have the disk and cables cluttering up the glove box. and/or you can burn 6 MP3 CD-R's for the CD changer

Cost of MDI £155

Cable £20

Portable HDD £40

How many 32Mb SDHC cards can you buy for £215!

For me it was worth it - I bought new from showroom stock and MDI was missed by the dealer so I got it for nothing, I already had a spare HDD and I got the cable from ebay for £10. I certainly won't be specifying MDI on the next one if I have to pay for it.

Looks really good mate, how are you finding it?

Would be good to see some wider angle pics of the grille but I think it looks like an excellent mod for Race Blue

Really enjoying it. Power seems far more subtle than the Leon 170 and whilst there is a little extra body roll the car seems agile enough. One gripe though the 6 cd changer managed to cut through 5 CDs!!! Anyone had an issue with this before!?! Better pics later too...

What are your plans for the FR?

The Leon goes back to my company who then get British Auctions to take it away. I have left a sealed bid for it as someone I know fancies it.

Buggeration................you actually know 2 people that want it!! Well kind of. :giggle:

Digressing though, nice work on the new beast, I've said it before and I'm sure I will say it again, the vRS should leave the factory with a colour coded grille!

It's not to late for the Leon because my friend just brought an Ford S MAX! Car has 107,000 fully serviced miles on it mostly motorway. Shall I get a quote from the firm for it?

Good colour match, did you get it professionally sprayed

Yeah both the grill and the rear spoiler for £100 by a 'spray mate'

That settles it, I'm definitely getting a new grille surround and having it colour coded before my car arrives

Looks great. Is it difficult to remove the grille from the car? What about taking the surround off? Just worried about potential for snapping bits of plastic on a new car!
