Wheel Arches Fitted!

Featured Replies

Just been browsing autotrader and came across this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201101376369038/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/yeti/make/skoda/postcode/se18yu/page/4/quicksearch/true/radius/1500?logcode=p

It has the wheel arch extension fitted, a bit of a dilema though, I am thinking of getting the rear film fitted to mine, but I also want the arches, I don't think you can have both!

Edited by My_Yeti

Good spot, ex Skoda fleet by the looks of her.

Would have thought it possible to have both as all Monsters have the film now which would otherwise make this part redundant. Mudflaps I understand are not compatible; unless your willing to undertake DIY surgery on them that is.

Regards,

TP

This wheel arch extension/protector kit is not IMHO worth it.

OK; it will provide protection but from a visual point of view, the Yeti has a large enough wheel arch void between the body and wheels that you do not need a black plastic strip around the wheel arch to make it look bigger (dependant on body colour naturally).

I had a FIAT Doblo a few years ago and fitted a similar kit to provide this effect as the wheel arches looked too small for the wheels/tyres.

Thanks, will investigate more abou the wheel arch and the film.

I actually like the wheel arch on a aesthitic point of view, if it protect the wheel arch then great. The problem I have is the surface area is quite back and I already have a dinf on the fron wheel arch due to people carelessly opening their doors. It may be worth it since it may not cost much more than having a body shop pulling that out.

It's similar to the wheel arch finish on the Qashqai.

I agree, I like the look and if it protects the arches then that's so much better. But cost is £200, possibly a bit more now with 20% VAT plus adhesive required and then fitting, will not be far off £300 I would guess.

Plus lots of bodging to fit with mudflaps and park assist in my caseemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I think I'll leave it for the time being.

Hi

Didn't really know under which topic to ask this but have a 1.2 TSi SE on order and wonder if I should go for mud flaps. Are they a good thing?

Thanks

Hi there and belatedly welcome to Briskoda.

Mud flaps? In a word; Yes.

IMHO they suit the styling quite well, are easy/simple to fit and most importantly will help keep road dirt off the sides of your Yeti.

HI,

Just want to bump this up.

Has anyone here had the wheelarches fitted and how much did it cost? I spoke to my local dealer, whilst the price of the parts remain largely the same before VAT rise (so it should!).

I have been quoted fitting at £90 as they need 2 hours for it.

Does that should reasonable? The last dealer I used was a Audi dealer and they cost about £80 per hour.

Thanks!

£90 for two hour labour - cheap as chip!

Thanks, aparently they have to prime the area as well?? Not sure why.

Just a quick update, booked in for this Thursday to have this fitted.

It isn't prime as in the paint way, but a special treatment to allow the glue to work better.

Just a quick update, booked in for this Thursday to have this fitted.

I'd be interested in any feedback (neat job or pigs ear) as I'm looking to have them fitted to my SM when it arrives but not sure if I trust the dealer with something that has to be glued!

Will post some photoes when they are fitted. I personally think they look great, especially given that I had a rather large ding on the passnger side front wheel arch and someone added their mark on the other side the other day!

Wheel Aches Pics Attached!

The plastic protects the whole wheel arch area, it wraps the bottom of the panel as well. Seems to be good quality. It does look like quite a fiddly job to do though as glue "crumbs" are on the panels.

They look smart, where did you get them done?

The plastic arches look great My Yeti!

My SM also has a 3 - 4 inch dent in my rear wheel arch, again after being left in an Asda car park :'(

I'll will have to see if the lease company will cover this, otherwise it will be an expensive repair job.

I think i would of had some plastic arches fitted too after seeing how good they llke on your car, and the dent etc, if the car was privatly owned.

Hi there, thanks for the comment. I have always wanted to fit them ever since I saw 90000's post on the Paris motorshow, but they only recently became available (in storage) in the UK. They actually looks better in the flesh, I will try to take some better photoes, but for some reason my camera made them look much darker.

I had them fitted at Pulman Skoda in Durham - they did a very decent job, and very well priced, I have been using them for warranty work. I would highly recommend them.

The reason why I ditted them was exactly the same reason - dents and dings. I had a ding and dents both sides of my front wheel arches, they are not massive but it is definitely unsightly. I think they are vulnerable areas, given their large surface area. Hopefully these wheel arches will protect the Yeti from being further abuse and hit by neibouring cars!

Edit: It doesn't seem Skoda has imported many of these kits, when I booked mine in on Tuesday, they only had 4 kits in stock??!!!

They do look 'right', I must admit and given the cost of even quite small bodywork repairs appear to be good value

I don't actually know how much it would cost to put my 2 dings right, but I wouldn't imagine it to be cheap and it is likely to come back again. My idea is that I might as well have it down whilst the car is new-ish as in 2-3 years time when depreciation hits hard, it would not make economic sense to do this.

I think they look really effective - spot on. Well done My_Yeti.

I was about to make the crass comment that they create an optical illusion in making your wheels seem smaller! You have the 16" fitted as standard, IIRC. Doh!!

Nice job. Looks right to me, and makes the car complete.

Yes, I think they look great and I would consider fitting them - but do I remember from an earlier post that they are incompatible with park assist?
