Flat spot?

Featured Replies

I've had my vRS for just over 2 years now (and loved every minute of ownership), it has been running a Stage 1 remap for the majority of that time. However over the last few weeks I've noticed a flat spot in the rev range between 3-3500, I had kind of dismissed it but yesterday night swmbo took it out and on her return said about it. So now I'm worried, if a automotive philistine like Mrs Page notices something like that and uses the correct terminology! :S

Any ideas? I don't see hwe it could be remap related due to the length of time its been on there, so could it be something more sinister? :(

Hmmmm.... Worth tracking down someone with VCDS to see if anything's been logged.

Also have you checked the usual culprits, coil packs, plugs, MAF or diverter valve, especially if it's the original diaphragm type. A quick search on here seems to regularly pull up these suggestions.

Have you changed your petrol supplier/ grade for any reason? SWMBOs Fabia 16v used to develop a "reliable" flat spot if she'd filled up with supermarket petrol as against decent Super Unleaded!

Dude, who mapped it?

Ben or co. From Shark is down our way on the 28th delivering my car......

DV or coilpack would be my first thought. I had a similar thing with my TFSi and it was a pack.

Good call on the fuel too. Any recent changes there?

Something like that might well have been logged, so a VCDS scan is certainly a good idea.

After fitting my HID kit yesterday I paid vRSCarl a visit to have the controller updated etc, during my visit we did a diagnostic log which reveiled that almost certainly the DV is toast, I did have an idea this would be the case as it is the original diaphragm model, so tbh 2 years at 235bhp + it has survived pretty well.

Revision D on order.

Thanks for the input guys.

Good stuff (well, not that the DV is dead but you know what I mean!)

TBH, I'm annoyed as I planned on getting one a few months ago but never got around to it, so now it will be with the higher VAT!

Running the logs was quite embrassing as the old girl felt like a gutless turd mobile :giggle: especially after Carl took me out is his 'V6' vRS...........................

I will wait for him to explain that one.

I'm trying to think what the V6 bit means, but I'll bide my time :)

What are the Rev Ds retailing at now? I wouldn't beat yourself up about it too much, it'll be a couple of quid difference - if that!

I'm sure Carl will elaborate in good time, but the reference is to the noise the car makes since he fitted VF Engine mounts, as he explained it, because there is little or no engine movement, all noise is transferred to the cabin, and my god what a sound! I likened it to my old Pug 406 Coupe V6 24v when being thrashed to within an inch of its life - only better.

The price from my local stealer was £52.90, which is the same at JKM and a few others, but sod's law 10 mintues after I ordered and paid for it, I was offered one by a member on the Mk5 Golf GTI forum. :wall:

Ah right, remember him mentioning those now! Certainly a bizarre but welcome bonus to fitting them :D

Always the way with parts mate. You can guarantee you'd have been waiting weeks for one to come up on the forums, if you hadn't just rung the dealer up ;)

Tell me about, I've been on the hunt for a 2nd hand downpipe with sport cat for the last year, went to look at the Pipewerx one on ebay only to find its gone up from £465 to £552, seems its now in line with the Miltek price.

Still looking for the definative answer re: compatiblity on that aswell, as I found one for a MK5 Golf GTI which I expected to fit but was told no!!

Update:

I think this is overwhelming evidence to suggest the DV was in fact fooked!:giggle:

Yikes! Yep, think you've had your money's worth from that :D

Sorry for being a bit dumb but what is DV?

Another update:

Took the old girl out for a proper run today, and OMG!!! I have a feeling the DV has been knackered since before the remap, because the performance I got today was absolutely phenomenal! :)

That's why vcds is good to have so you can log boost and check fault codes. Get saving mate ;)

Why?? vRS Carl is only 10 minutes up the road! :giggle:

Nice! Always get 'strong' performance with a shiny new DV, and one that's now fit for purpose :D

thats nothing, when i took my old DV off it literally fell in half :o . I'll be ordering VCDS i think, provided is fully compatible with the new Fabia's, definitely handy to have

Yep, will work a treat on the new Fab mate. Probably best getting HEX+CAN so that you're sorted for everything
