Old "quick rack" thing again.

Featured Replies

OK, right guys, I am really struggling here.

I have seen lots of posts about these 2.5 turn "quick racks".

I have a few racks.

a std one on one of my vRS

a S3(been told) one on the other vRS def 2.5 turns (its a bit stiff compared to the std one and it turns a slight bit further one way than the other if you get that)

and another I got of a member who said its a TT S3 one iirc.

ne way, there are that many numbers on it. these are them:

7891 974 131 ZFO

8N2 422 055 L

006 168 09 00

1J2 422 105 DE ADB 3

IMG00049-20110119-0345.jpg

8N2 422 701 R

So what does that all mean?

is it the right one or not?

I will be fitting it to my car to see, as I know what the S3 one feels like, so will try this other one unless anyone can say for certain its just a normal one?

cheers

ok just picked the rack up off the floor and noticed that you can pull the arm out pritty easy.

I can now confirm that this rack is 2.5 turn rack.

I found this out by pushing the rack in all the way and noting the spline position where the steering column goes on, then I pulled it out all the way and it went round 2.5 times exact lol. it wouldnt go ne more as you can feel it hit the stops.

if anyone else can post pics and PN of their 2.5 turn "quick rack" then please do as there are so many different numbers out there, it would make it easier for people to see them all together.

cheers

Not being funny here, but is that rack correctly centred across the car? Did it possibly come from an application that uses unequal length trackrods?

Amateurs old car is a 2.5. The one in the pic was purchased to go on mu car before gettin amateurs old car. I am going to put it on mine first to see what its like and see which one of the 2 is the best. Then sell the other for a few quid. Edit: clarification that if I find a fault with either I won't sell it. That goes for all parts.

I don't want to sell the one in the pic incase its u/s. Neither myself nor previouse owner can say for sure it works and seen as its been off a car for 3 year you never know.

The amount of stuff I got for the car is unreall lol. 2 cars but 3 lots of interior, 3 steering racks. Lol list goes on lol

Edit. Not at all mark

Hey Billy , interesting finding this thread as your rack has almost the same numbers on it as mine, And although you confirmed yours is a 2.5 turn, i will have to wait till the arms arrive to checks it turns. A little bit more confident now.

Here is my part numbers on my rack. Still no joy in matchingteh 8N2 number up as yet
