modify standard air box

Featured Replies

On my octavia 130 tdi i put my standard air box back on and cut a hole in the left hand side and added a front air feed, and the car runs alot better then it did with the perfomance air filter.

Has anyone else done this?

This is looking good.

Here's a couple of pics

Not the best quality from my phone but you can see what its like.

hope it gives decent gains

why dont u add a performance air filter to that set up  .. the performance filter will operate better than a standard filter so add it to the modified box :smirk:

please please please can you show me PROOF of this? performance air filters DO NOT increase performance unless your existing filter is old and blocked!

Dubious looking wiring around your MAF.... what is occuring there?

That's the wiring for his tow bar

I've done this mod but went in from the right hand side of the box, using the already exisiting hole. I also de-finned and smoothed the airbox as well as drilled the base.

I know a fabia engine bay is different, but if the air feed is running next to the engine won't it just warm up the air as it goes in? Isn't there any space on the otherside?

I’ve been mulling over doing this but was worried the extra holes drilled in the box will allow warm air from the engine bay into the air box… negating some of the benefit of getting a cold air feed from the front grille?

Drill holes away from the engine side of the airbox, whatever warm air you do get should be outweighed by the amount of cold air coming from the feed from the grille

I put a cold air feed from front behind front grill in bumper up to my jabba induction kit,

Its abit tight and you have to adjust horns and mod front bumper grill as it dont have no holes in it

+1

Bill

Dont think they improve performance just have a nice growl from under bonnet on acceleration,

I only got induction kit cos i got it cheap off ebay

I have to say I am more than happy with the cheap airbox mod. It sounds good and the is noticable performance all for £10 and a couple of hours work.

I have been meaning to fix my oil breather pipe for a while, which was until the weekend making the car stink of oil, and the engine a lot louder. I think the air intake was sucking air through the breather pipe. Performance wise no different since the change, but my MPG is definitley lower this week :( This is on a 1.6 petrol.
