How do I remove CD autochanger ?

Featured Replies

When I turn on the CD player in my Octavia vRS (2001), no matter which of the 6 CDs I select it just says SURFACE.

First of all it goes to CD 1 says SURFACE then moves onto CD 2 and says the same and so on until it gets to CD 6 and it then returns to CD 1 and starts all over again.

I have read somewhere that if you remove the CD Autochanger and then clean the fitting and refit it this could solve the problem.

I apologise for my lack of knowledge on such matters but how do I remove the CD Autochanger, I presume I have to first remove the housing that the autochanger sits in but cant see where the fittings/screws are and dont' know what type of screw driver I will need, can anyone help please with an idiot proof guide ?

It has been ages since I used my changer (removed it 5 years+ ago). Are you sure the disks are in the correct way around?

When I removed mine, it was attached to a bracket, so I just removed the whole bracket - I think. This was in my estate though.

I don't use my changer but I have removed it before, it has a bolt on each side where it attaches to the bracket, again this is on the estate model

Yes the discs are in the right way, it was playing ok, all the discs were playing then I turned it on the next day and that's when it started playing up.

Sometimes dust on the lens can cause read problems. Sorry I know it might have sounded like I was suggesting you were stupid, I did not mean that

I think Alex may be right, remove the changer from the bracket, and then I removed the bracket afterwards. I'll check mine (it is in the garage to see what sized torx are on it).

You were ok suggesting I am stupid as where these matters are concerned I am lol

I tried to remove the changer from the bracket but it was tight, I assumed the bolts on the outside of the bracket were going throught the bracket and into the changer itself - is this right ???

Or does it just pull straight out then ???

Torx - T25

You need to undo the upper one on both sides and just loosen the lower one.

That's it, it pivots on the bottom ones and lifts out, it has been quite a while since I looked at it as it's disconnected :giggle:

Looking at this picture (just taken), then it appears you can just loosen both torx on both sides, and then tip the bottom towards the centre of the car and then lift the unit up.
