Danish 1.8 TSI DSG standard with Hill-Hold?

Featured Replies

Not true - only in Launch control mode will the clutch not engage when you depress the accelerator. I do this now instead of the convential handbrake hill start.

Why you need hill hold is beyond me though.

Well, mine rolls back on multi-story carpark ramps and I don't use any Launch contol

If you have your left foot on the brake and try and accelerate the car will try and pull and stress on the brakes.

I'll give it another go next week then :)

Hill-Hold in Denmark? Why?

My "winter motorcycle" is a smart fortwo that is fitted with a simple hill hold along the automatic gearbox - Holds the brakes for a short while so you have time to move you foot from the brake to the accelerator. It work very well and since i board a ferry almost twice a week i like it very much. The ramps are long and step and it is so much easier than having to use the handbrake.

It will no be very often that i take the skoda that way (the cost on the ferry is twice as high as for the short smart) but since is has a manual gearbox i'll simply have to rely on the good old clucth/handbrake/acceretor combination ....

But with DSG i would definitely want it - just for comfort. It is just software ...

Hi Tankdave, Did you try this out again?

I'm confused and I've written to Skoda UK for some clarification. I have a Superb 170DSG Elegance estate (inc lots of extras) on order and I want to make sure I don't need to add another option before a build week comes through.

I have a pdf copy of the latest owners manual off the Skoda website. Nowhere in it can I find mention of what the brochure describes as Hill Hold Control. There is, however, mention of 'Uphill Start Assist' as an integral part of the electronic stability programme and, as there are no asterisks in the manual denoting that this might not be standard (as there were in previous versions of the owners manual), I assume that it is standard...but I cannot be 100% sure.

It is very confusing if Skoda are using different names in different documents to describe the same features.

My questions to Skoda are...

1. Are 'Hill Hold Control' and 'Uphill Start Assist' the same thing?

2. Is this feature standard or not on a MY12 Superb Estate 170CR DSG Elegance

Like others I tow a heavy caravan and will be close to GTW with the kitchen sink in the back. Having the brakes stay on for a couple of seconds whilst pulling away uphill would be very useful.

Does anyone have any further news on this? If I get a reply from SUK I will update the topic.

cheers Simon

I also have a 4x4 170CD Combi on order and the dealer was very happy to add the Hill Hold option to the list as I was told that it is not standard on the Elegance model, but available as an option. My current DSG 170CR does not have it and regret it due to tricky hill starts near home - I always hope I can get out quickly to avoid the "do I use the handbrake" dilemna!

ddyer79 - thanks for the info...looks like I'll being adding to my option list. I'll see what SUK have to say about the confusing info and lack of uniform names given to features in their cars.

Since my car is finally here, I can answer the OP's (myself) question: Yes, my car has hill-hold, so if you buy a 1.8 TSI DSG in Denmark, your Superb will be equipped with Hill Hold Control.
