Skoda did or does build trams, railway stuff and armaments but VW only bought the car division.

If you read the history of Skoda it has a long and interesting heritage.

There are several books on the subject, one I have is called 'Skoda, Lauren & Klement' written by Ivan Margolius and Charles Meisl and is a worthwhile read.

Another is 'The True Story of Skoda' by Dave Randle

Interesting the trams i saw looked really modern and had the old style badge. Books sound interesting, might invest in one when i get back :)

They made buses and still make trolleybuses too I believe, and at one time I think they built trucks..

Dont forget the tractors, I think they have been re-branded as the 4x4 Diesel Yeti emoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Maybe Edinburgh will get some Skoda trams when they eventually finish the tram works!

I've lost count on the years mate, but it was supposed to be up and running yesterday or the day before, be lucky before it's 2013 now!

Yes, their tram division is still alive and kicking. And as said, completely separate to the road vehicle division.

Think Edinburgh's getting Bombardier vehicles, eventually! But Skoda trams have, and will continue to be considered for other tram systems in the UK.

A bit like their road counterparts, they have a very good reputation for quality and reliability.

Its like the mis-guided busway in Cambridge..BAM Nuttal are getting fined on a daily basis for lateness, and has already cost them a few million!

Different company (Skoda Holdings). That's why the logo is the old one.

Hi - I was in Prague a few weeks ago - Loved the Skoda Trams too

Have a great time

Sarah :)

Sorry -no idea how to make piccie smaller :D

I saw two Skoda elevators in a building a few years ago, unfortunately I didn't take a photo. Very stupid, very very stupid.

From my visit in July, although the strangest place I've come across the winged arrow being on the crankcase of a Daimler Benz DB601 aero engine fitted to the Messerschmitt BF109G 'Black 6' now in RAF museum; friend of mine rebuilt it and maintained while on the airshow circuit until some dim wit pilot vitally wrecked it during a landing :swear: He had to restore it again after that but to be put in the museum emoticon-0106-crying.gif

There are a bunch of Skoda/MAN badged busses in Riga. I could never decide which one it was. Front says Skoda, rear says MAN.

EDIT: Bit of a necropost there, mate.

The best thing they've made is TANKS

Nah, I'd say it was the UFOs they built for the Nazis in the early 1940s. Google it!

There's some very nice Skoda electric locomotives in Bulgaria, Class 42 and 43. I really want to go as they also now have some of our electrics that I used to go up and down the West Coast Main Line on until Virgin got rid of them. Unfortunately I can't convince the wife that Bulgaria is a holiday destination!

Look at this.

In my town you can see Skoda trams until this time.

But.. condition is really badly. Anyway, it runs  :)
