Tow Bars -Special offer

Featured Replies

At the NEC Caravan show this week Witter are offering a 15% discount on supply and fit towbars and electrics.

Has to be booked on line via their website (www.witter-towbars.co.uk) entering promotional code 'NEC2011' but needs to be booked by 31st March for fittings no later than 30th April.

Example: YETI fixed tow bar with vehicle specific 13 pin electrics (or 12n+12s) £379.56 fitted.

They offer a nationwide fitting service, and have fixed or detachable, flange or swan neck.

Seems like a good deal, pity mines not coming until May!!

Might be worth asking the question, though, as they are always eager to secure the business.

I agree, might try and do a deal with their local agent, but I'm not going to commit myself until I am told 'your cars here - come and collect it' It's a leased company car, and we are about to have some changes of ownership (job's safe) leasing company have said they will transfer order to new owners, but I still suspect that it will depend on the price per month - presently we enjoy special terms, I suspect this will change. having said that my boss (new and old) is happy for me to have the car, and the alternatives are probably even more expensive. (& longer delivery) I've managed to negotiate keeping the present car until the new one arrives (I was supposed to hand it back on the day the change takes place) so I'm reasonably optimistic - don't worry I will be making a formal announcement the day it comes !!!

Just a thought Millstone, if you want one, cant you pay for it by the end of March and just ask if it can be fitted when you new SM arrives???

I'm sure they will be happy to accommodate that.

Oooooh forget that idea, just seen the bit about fitting before the end April........................what a bummer emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Thanks for that, just booked mine in for a detachable flange neck with 13 pin electrics. Saved £98 on list price.

Are they using the Skoda towbar electrics harness, and the software update ?

I've just had a swan neck towbar with twin 7 pin(12n & 12s) electrics, vehicle specific wiring with coding for park sensor disable, trailer stability program and trailer bulb failure for £390 all in, so even with your discount that is still a bit pricey compared to an independant.

I just went onto the website and put in Yeti, this then gave a choice of various tow bars and either single electrics, twin electrics, or 13 pin electrics. I just worked out the price of the cheapest bar with 13 pin electrics to give as an example.

They say that the Yeti needs a 'vehicle specific' electrict kit, I assume it's their version of it rather than purchased from a Skoda dealer. They also say that the vehicle 'may need the electronics reprogramming'.

When you use the enquiry page it gives you a list of fitting companies, all of whom are independant fitters, I think that all Witter are doing is agreeing a standard charge with their agents for supply and fitting, and in order to 'drive up' some trade at the start of the season have got them all to agree to a 15% discount. It may be that your local fitter (who is probably a Witter agent) is prepared to offer the same service at a lower price.

All credit to Witter though for arranging a standard price, which saves a lot of phoning round for quotes, and at least you know it will be fitted by a proffessional who (hopefully) knows what they are doing.

One point, more and more tow bar companies are equiping themselves with the 'kit' to enable them to re-set software on modern cars. After all (as we have seen on this web-site) it's not only Skoda dealers who can make software adjustments.

BTW - I don't work for Witter, or anybody else associated with them, I just spotted this at the show and thought it might be of interest!!

Your car doesn't "need" a vehicle specific kit, a bypass relay system will power the lights just fine. However if you want all the features like parking sensor disable, trailer stability control and light failure warnings then you will need it as it plugs into the central convenience unit I believe and the car knows when a trailer is connected, which it won't if you have the bypass relay system fitted. The towbar fitting company I went to in Horndean had the piece of equipment that can re-set the software and fitted the towbar and electrics, coded and checked in about 1 1/2 hours while I waited. The wiring loom was a pattern part rather than Skoda original I believe but that doesn't matter as long as it does the job and is reliable.

That's a good price, what make of towbar was it? and you had better tell us who the fitting company was as well !!

Though looking via Witter's website I guess it was Phil Taylor Towbars ??

TBH the proper wiring kit is not much more than the bypass relay kits nowadays, and there are reports on some of the caravan forums of these "kits" failing prematurely.
