I do know the Mk5 Golf one has been fitted. I think fitting to the engine bay side involves a bit of effort, but it's do-able.

i bought one from superskoda. It was great when i fitted it ( a little fiddly) but bits of it have begun to rust and its not as strong as it was when i first put it on. its a lot of money to pay tbh. Also, it dosent lift the bonet to the same height as the standard piece of kit does.

As above. Working okay, needs a bit of polish just to get the rust marks off. Doesn't lift quite as high as std. prop.

They're advertising a 'version 2' which may be better? Not had any problems with them as a company, although carriage can be pricey.

I was helping, I gave the OP a tool in which to find out the information required. My point was, use the search tool, its what its there for. I could have posted links to 4 or 5 threads where this mod has previously been discussed...but why should I take the time to do that when the OP could have.

Because the search function is frankly rubbish....You can put specific search terms in and it will still reveal a million non relevent results. Its OK if you are looking for a particular thread but when you are new, you may not know what to search for and the headings may not hint that the thread has info about the struts. I think that the OP was just asking if it was possible and for a place to buy them.

Just have to watch my head so it won´t hit the bonnet, it´s becomes lower than the original supportimg9974d.jpg

Dry your eyes Princess.

Just sent an email to S/skoda to see if they'll replace my (slightly) rusting one, but not holding my breath.....

TBH it's the washers/clips that are corroding-probably just carp plating

If s/skoda can't help you could just replace the end fittings if that's the only problem. Although I took a look at their site and they claim the struts are stainless steel, which obviously does not rust.

I work for a gas strut company so please let me know if you want any help

Fair play, thanks. I've actually polished most of it off-after I took the photos to send of course :giggle:

You might be able to sell a few on here if you could knock one up to suit?

Also, if you search the site under 'pikey auto boot mod' or 'auto boot mod', you'll see that some of us have tried to 'spring load' the rear struts to pop the boot open when unlocked using the remote. It ssems to work well on the estate, but not the hatch. Do you think you have or could make a stronger strut that would lift the hatch, but not too strong that it can't be closed easily?

I would just need a measurement from the strut then I'm sure we could supply an equivalent.

I’ve asked my boss and we could offer a forum discount as well :D

"Pikey" boot mod makes me :) You could get new struts at an higher force, but it would probably be cheaper to try uprating the old ones first. The hatchback ones have about 20% headroom left in them

Not sure of the best way to advertise-maybe PM a moderator?

Excellent news. Someone who knows what they're doing with struts :D

Would be good if a suitable bonnet lifter and hatch strut could be supplied for the Octy2

Now, I put mine other way round. :wonder:

Cannot remember what the instructions said.

Nice m0bov

m0bov has them fitted the correct way up with the larger cylinder above the piston rod. This keeps the oil inside the strut over the seals and the struts should last longer.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just an update: after a second email (two weeks after the first one), Superskoda have promised to send a replacement. So I can't complain about their service.
