Yeti changes announced at Genea Motor Show

Featured Replies

More comfort, greater appeal: the 2012 model year

Entering the new model year, the Yeti will receive numerous visual enhancements based on the colour and design packages. For the first time, two-tone colouring – as seen in the Fabia – will be available. Customers can choose between four different shades of roof, feeding the Yeti’s personality and making striking contrasts. There are also two new metallic colours, Malachite Green and Lava Blue, which give the compact SUV’s body a particularly elegant touch. Design package Reef, which can be ordered for the Ambition and Experience trim levels, includes protective side mouldings, two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels and silver roof rails. The visual innovations are rounded off by the new 16-inch Nevis alloy wheels.

Comfort and functionality can also be enhanced by the new optional folding tables fitted to the back of the front seats. They will be appreciated by passengers of all ages and interests and can be used for play and work. The front passenger seat can be folded forwards completely, adding even more variation to the interior. This dramatically improves the ability to transport long objects, and in other cases it can serve as a convenient tabletop.

From the 2012 model year, the upgraded Amundsen+ navigation system with factory-installed maps will be available for the Yeti. Customers will be able to take their pick of two versions of maps: Eastern and Central Europe or Western and Central Europe. Destinations can be entered using a postcode of up to seven digits (the coding used by several European countries). The navigation device also features a CD player and radio, which can optionally be complemented with digital DAB radio reception and a Bluetooth module for handsfree phoning while driving.

On freezing winter days, the Yeti’s optional independent heating remote control is sure to come in handy, enabling the driver to start heating the interior at the breakfast table so that the car is just the right temperature when it’s time to leave. When parking in narrow streets or when driving through narrow openings, the convenient electric folding door mirrors can be activated.

"the convenient electric folding door mirrors can be activated". ......well there's a thing! Can't imagine that the furore on here would have influenced that decision....but it would be nice to fool ourselves in to thinking it might have....

Bare in mind that this is an international press release and may not apply to UK models!

if the new options come to the UK there will be a lot of secondhand yetis on the dealers forecourts. dab folding mirrors 16in wheels remote heater front seat folding flat all things that have been mentioned on the forum

Ties in with the parts 'book' which shows the Columbus and Amundsen navigation systems as only being installed until 30/05/11. However what's replacing them is not shown. Heating and vent controls are likewise only shown to the 30/05/11 but not what's in there place. Virtually all gearboxes will be changed except I think the 2.0TDI 2wd.

Like the sound of some of the new features; shame mines going to miss out, will probably be just in the UK when these new features roll down the line :S That is if Skoda Auto can ever make their mind up on a build date; just received my fourth amendment today

TP

Hi Kev,

Regards as always,

Finally a folding front seat... It would really have come in useful the other day going to IKEA. Though in saying that I fitted everything I needed to.

I'm not however so sure about the four different shades of roof... hmmm...

Hi Tim

Er... um ... er ....... you could always ask if your build week could be put back until the beginning of June... ... ... after all, you've waited this long already, so another month or six will simply fly by.. ... ...

You could then be TP - The Procrastinator

Mine is still set for week 12 just checked, can they ammend it anytime or are there specific days on which its done

I think it could work on the Yeti due to the flat roof - it works quite well on the Fabia IMO but not the Roomster.

Depending on who you speak too, then it should be 'fixed' anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks before build date. Therefore I would say yours is just about safe at WK12 now :)

My thoughts exactly, funny how the goalposts move - build week 15 , then 17 , then 15 again  - now reading the MY2012 changes and hoping for 19 +

So, are we likely to see the 2012 model year changes taking effect from June? If they were I would be keen to hold off and receive my car a couple of months later than the estimated May delivery time.

when do the 2012 models normally start to come through - I though that it would be after the factory summer break, (August) ....... i.e. coming through from September?

MY12 production starts this year on the 31/05/2011 WK22/11, so the first ones should arrive in the UK at the back end of June.

Some nice extras there, but not enough to make me change right away, but good to know they will exist when hopefully I change mine in 3 years or so's time.

Options I will get most likely next time:

Heated Windscreen (currently available)

TPM ((currently available)

Remote Heater (new spec, if available in UK)

Folding Mirrors (new spec, if available in UK)

Sat Nav with DAB (new spec, if available in UK)

Rear Seat Tables (new spec, if available in UK)

Mildly surprised to see that there's no planned change to engine spec. Would have been nice to see the top petrol edging down into band I (<185 CO2), if not lower, and maybe getting a few more BHP in the process - can't be that difficult to do - it would be a fairly modest change after 2-3 years of potential engine development since launch.

Do I read it correctly then that Skoda are going to tie a DAB radio in with taking their satnav etc. V disappointing if that is how they are going to do this option as that will increase the cost past what most people would pay. I hope I am wrong.

The press release quoted at the top of this thread said the satnav could be OPTIONALLY equipped with a DAB tuner - which mirrors the satnav that's been offered on the Seat Altea for months.

Personally I'd rather have a DAB option with the Bolero radio as I find built-in satnavs too inflexible compared with my TomTom (can't easily add extra POI files or update maps for instance).

But as long as Skoda UK don't veto it I'll be happy to accept DAB with a redundant Amundsen+ !!

Being as sad as I am I will never get on with an Amundsen since it has that awful middle button! It looks awful in my book. The Bolero and Columbus both just look right to my architect's eyes. But each to their own!

By the way Volkswagen's version of the Bolero has had a DAB option for yonks. So you won't have to get Sat Nav to get DAB. BUT then we are talking SUK here and stranger things have happened...

I imagine we will have to wait until a proper facelift for any further changes to available engines and engine specs.

Kitten and I may change Ivor into Ivor Mk|| in 4 or 5 years time and we're looking at

Panoramic sunroof

DSG 4x4 auto

Electric memory seats

Keyless entry

Electronic start/stop button

as well as all the 'gizmos' it currently has.

Yes, I'm aware that VW offer a DAB tuner for their version of the Bolero, but only as a factory-fit option. It's not clear whether Seat and Skoda use a cheaper version of the radio chassis whick precludes adding a DAB tuner, or whether it's VW just ensuring there is a marketing differential between VW cars and the "cheaper" Seat and Skoda equivalents. Even with VWs, there's no after-sales way of adding the DAB tuner - perhaps because of the difficulty of changing radio aerials/amplifiers etc?

My statement was meant in terms of factory fit to the new generation of Yeti: that you should be able to get DAB without having to pay for Sat-nav as stated in this thread elsewhere.
