Painting Scout wheels

Featured Replies

As all 4 of the scout's wheels are now delaminating and/or scuffed (out of warranty) I'm planning to get them refurbished soon.

Any suggestions on a colour to paint the wheels? The car is anthracite with silver roof rails if that makes a difference!

Will be painting over the polished spokes to reduce the chance of further delamination (they'll have a tough life - plenty of muddy tracks and farmyards (with associated silage and slurry)).

Thanks for any advice (and pics?)

Replicate the new optional "polished proteus alloy"...

The two Scout alloys I had replaced under warranty are now delaminating again, I'd be interested to see the results when you get them done.

Not sure I could paint over the polished spokes, I still catch myself looking at them reflecting in other cars on the motorway :D

like the look of those but still have th problem of the polished spokes :) maybe gold plated?

maybe gold plated?

:o Better ask Brimma.... :D

Get a photo up and someone can photoshop different colours? I'd be interested to see, having an Anthracite Octy myself. I sprayed my winter steelies gloss black, but don't think I'd do alloys as dark?

good plan - will try to get a pic tomorrow

A very light silvery grey, similar to some of the audi wheels should compliment the Anthracite, certainly keep them lighter than the cars body. OR !!!! if you want to be radical Orange, like the Repsol Hondas

If you know a local bodyshop who understand cash they can often be cheaper than refurb companies.

Same issue here, had the wheels re-done under warranty last year and they are now de-laminating again....

What are those steel wheels from originally? they look like a VW Transporter wheel.

Seat Leon, 2007. Transporter centres.

as winter wheels go they are pretty nice.

I'm bitterly regretting not ordering the polished alloys on my anthricite scout. They look superb from the pics posted by members here.

I have some "graphite satin" light grey Team Dynamics ProRace 1.2 wheels on my Lava Grey (not quite black) Audi. The colour works well on a dark car, but they would look wrong on my Anthracite Scout as the colour is too close. I think you need darker wheels, black or dark grey. However with the silverwork on the car and your roofrails I think "smoked silver" would work.

I'm having my first wheel changed under warranty, and assume that once out of warranty I'll have to go down the refurb route too, so will be interested in your choice.

Are the wheels only covered by the standard 3 yr warranty or do they come under the "bodywork" anti-corrosion warranty?

I only ask as I has SWMBO's mazda wheels refurbed a few years ago FOC by the dealer under warranty when the vehicle was 4 (maybe 5?) years old. The mazda paintwork warranty is 7 yrs IIRC and also covered the paint on the wheels. I didn't even have to argue - they were happy to do it and in fact had a set of 4 ready refurbed to swap over with ours so we weren't even without the car whilst they were being done.

oh, and if they're not covered and you fund your own refurb, then for me, graphite (like an anthracite but darker, but not completely black) like mine would look spanking against the anthracite paintwork. If you follow either of the links in my sig you'll see pics of mine.

ok, its a vrs not a scout, and it has lovely vmr wheels, but you get the idea - anthracite paint and dark wheels B)

Good point, I've just looked at the Skoda three year paint warranty and body protection warranty and there is no mention of the wheels.

Not sure if that is a good or bad thing!

Mazda alloys were/are notorious for corrosion, hence the dealer having a refurbed set ready to go straight on!

You should be able to attach pictures from your computer, unless thats a Freedom only thing! When you open the reply window it should have a pane below it with Attachments, where you can browse your files and attach......

If not do you have a photobucket account? Once you upload an image, you copy the 'IMG' code and then paste it directly in to the reply.....simples! ;)

Re' the Proteus wheels, I can confirm in the flesh they look amazing, a work colleague just got a new Scout in black with these fitted, they fill the phat arches nicely.

thanks for the help with the pictures - now for my next favour - can anyone photoshop them with black/dark grey wheels?
