Some off roading in Beti...

Featured Replies

I popped up to Rough Tracks in Newmarket at the weekend with my good friend Andy (and his very tastfully modded Wrangler) to see what Beti could do off road. Ive used her abilities several times previously - most notably when in Spain last year on a pebble beach, general off roading and getting down a mountain when the previous night of floods decided to bring lots of rocks and debris land sliding down over the mountain roads) :o This, however, is the first time Ive had a go at a proper off roading 'course' in the car. The aim of the day was not to damage the vehicle in anyway but to get an idea just how good the electronic trickery is in respect of getting up and down hills and testing its tractive abilities in mud. I made the decision to change from my winter wheels back to the Dunlop Sport SP01's. I wasnt sure if this was the right decision beforehand but I felt the additional ground clearance they would offer was more important than ultimate traction as it had been dry weather for the previous two days. It was a bet that paid off as it achieved everything I asked of it and also impressed me and a number of owners of more 'serious' off roading vehicles! B)

Footage here if anyone is interested...

Id recommend this sort of thing to anyone else wanting to see what the car is capable of. The cost was just £30 for the day and we had great fun throughout. Im so very impressed with the capability of the Yeti - Id guess there arent many cars on the road, certainly not for what the Yeti cost, that can do a 70mph cruise to the event getting over 40mpg, then spend the day off roading (providing such a laugh throughout) and then sitting at a fair pace to get home in good time for dinner! It's by far the most complete all rounder ive owned. Hope you enjoy the footage.

Very nice!

I was impressed with what the Yeti can do, these proper off-road days are very useful. They give you lots of space to play which is useful. Did you friend get his Wrangler stuck? if he didn't he isn't trying hard enough!

There is a great offroad course in Slindon down the A29 which is great but a lot trickier than the place in Newmarket by the looks of your videos.

Don't suppose you know what camera/mount your friend was using, I like the way the footage is filmed.

nice

for all the "doubters" and 16" fans who suggest that 17" wheel are "not good" off road

Wow! What can I say? Well firstly, thanks for sharing that all with us! A lot of work done to get those clips uploaded. And what a car... maybe I have ordered the right car after all. Thanks again.

The wheels have nothing to do with offroad ability. The rolling radius will be roughly the same, as will the ground clearance, it's all about the rubber. Summer tyres work fine on gravel but a bit of wet clay or mud and the tread becomes very slick.

Nice set of videos, which confirm what I already knew................the Yeti is good off-road!!

One suggestion; make sure that your brakes and all underneath has had a thorough washing. The sand/clay there has very abrassive properties!

By Rough Tracks do you mean Wild tracks?

Looks great. I'd love to do this. We did not have much of a response to doing this up in Lincolnshire as an official Yeti Adventure...

Thanks. The site had high powered jet washers available for use.... So I went round it and underneath it THREE times  did all in the brakes and all the suspension components from every angle - it looks like the day I picked it up from the showroom again.

Great set of videos - very capable.

I loved the engine noise from the video car - Jeep or G-Wagen ?

Looks like a fun day,

Miss doing a bit of off roading, we had great fun going on family days out in the mud.
