Detailed car & made custom trackday camera mount

Featured Replies

Spent the last couple of days giving the car a thorough going over on some days off in this gorgeous sunshine down here in Torbay, ready for Castle Combe in a couple of weeks :)

Car was washed using Auto Glym shampoo, then left wet for me to clay the car using Bilt Hamber Clay (for those who don't know about this, you only need to use water as the lubricant, saving other costs. Also the pack itself only costs £10 so it's a bargain).

Car was then dried with a microfibre and I set to work polishing using Auto Glym SRP.

Finally the car was then waxed using two coats of Collinite 476s which I feel gives a lovely finish (photographs don't do it justice).

I also decided to make a custom camera mount for the trackdays I do during the year. Up until recently suction mounts have been OK to use, but most tracks will not accept these any more. I looked on Fast Film's website and found a suitable headrest mount for £50...... :wonder:

I then thought 'how hard can it be' and decided to make my own. 30 minutes later and I have something which cost me nothing. It just needs painting to finish it off :) I will let the pictures do the talking!

Cheers,

Si.

Car looks stunning Si - nice detail!!!!

I like the cheap and effective camera mount;

didnt know tracks were banning certain camera accessories?!? :o

Nice work!

I like the DIY camera mount!

Looks lovely that. I did mine on Sunday with ag shampoo, ag srp and Colli 476.. bring a nice shine! I'm yet to open my bilt hamber clay but it won't be long if the weather stays as good as it is! Only thing with SRP is that it's a bit dusty.. Think I'll revert back to my black hole next time.

Good job with the camera mount too :)

Nice work Si

cool DIY mount too...

looking good Si

I think Jason ran a very similar camera plank, i mean mount but his was held in place by the "legs" of both passenger and drivers side head rests

Cheers, I will give the mount a test sometime and see if it wobbles, although it is pretty sturdy. Really can't see the point in a £50 piece of tube with a sticker on it now :giggle:

Nice motor

Love the wheels (and the colour of them) IMO they are one of, if not the best on a Fabia

mind if I steal the idea Si?

got a trackday coming up and was wondering how I'd mount the camera!

Go for it! That's why I thought it was a good idea to share it on here

I was going to use a suction mount for Castle Combe...

Is that wrong?

I got told to take mine off last year at Combe, also at Oulton Park recently it was also a big no no.

They state that a camera mount has to be securely fixed to the car, suction mounts will not suffice.

Piece of wood and a drill, sorted!

What a cracking idea :) Upside down it could be DVD player/holder, mount a phone on it and not only video a trip, but it can do hands free on speaker phone :D

Dragons Dens.......

I would try to get some kind of bungee setup pulling it down, as when I had a similar seat mounted one, the mount vibrated badly which ruined the footage. I had two bungees pulling the mount down on the seat rails which kept it steady.

Thanks Jason, I am going to test it later. Also got some bungee's in the boot so will use those if needed

Only 2 and a bit weeks until Combe now :o

Car looks great. Evolos in that colour work really well against the Black Magic emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Jordan - I'm using Auto Glym Rubber Cleaner at the moment as I got a large free sample from my local garage to try. It is a trade product though, however its really good stuff though so may end up buying some more from ebay. Lasts for ages even in the rain. I put a small amount in a container and apply it with a soft paint brush.

Also tested the mount last night, only a very slight bit of judder when setting off or over very large bumps, so I am happy with the footage without the need for bungee's :)

Cheers :) get motoring then! Lol
