Climatronic clicking noise

Recommended Posts

Hi,

When the climatronic is on the lowest fan setting i'm getting a clicking noise coming from behind it somewhere. It's pretty quiet but slightly annoying none the less.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks, Lee

There have been a few posts on this, I know the noise it's like relays clicking.

I believe there is a software fix for this but have a search.

I'm not sure if mine still does it or not. I could only hear it when idling.

Can the software fix be done via VCDS do you know?

With the ignition on but the engine NOT running, hold down the ECON and the bottom left of the four oblong buttons for airflow. The display changes and then you hear all the flaps calibrating.

ha just came back to this thread to find Andyvee has beaten me to it! Andy is 100% correct, thats the procedure, it may not cure it completely, but i would be very surprised if it didnt work!

Nice. Haven't seen that procedure listed before so I'll give that a go. As said, I only really notice it when the ignition's on, but without the engine running. And strangely it does it even with the system in 'off' mode (after the button modification obviously :))

Stu's Common Issues page just lists:

Climatronic Clicking

A clicking noise can be heard from the Climatronic system, normally when the heating is cold. A simple adjustment with the dealer diagnostic system can cure this

I'll drop him a line and get this routine added to the page emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Brilliant..now much less clicking and clunking going on with mine too, though the strange stuff on the displays while the process is running was slightly worrying :o

CC had a good workout this afternoon with outside temperature hitting 21°

Ah right - good to know. So it might require multiple calibration attempts :)

Might have another go this week then, see if it improves a second time round. Seeing as it's probably not been re-done ever in nearly 6 years!

Decided to get everything sorted out on climatronic now that the clicking has gone. Just had the air con regassed this morning by a local mobile air con specialist -- £45 cash. With all but the centre vents closed, and the system on LO and recirc, my food thermometer in the centre vents is now showing -2 degrees! Couple that with no more clicking, and I couldn't be happier!

Mike

Was it just a regas or did he test for leaks?
