Climatronic clicking noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

When the climatronic is on the lowest fan setting i'm getting a clicking noise coming from behind it somewhere. It's pretty quiet but slightly annoying none the less.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks, Lee

There have been a few posts on this, I know the noise it's like relays clicking.

I believe there is a software fix for this but have a search.

I'm not sure if mine still does it or not. I could only hear it when idling.

Can the software fix be done via VCDS do you know?

you can do a climatronic reset via the buttons, I did this and it did help mines a fair bit...

ah now thats going to test my memory, I made note of it around a year ago, bear with me and I will try to find it....

Yes mine clicks too - only hear it when the radio isn't on, which isn't often!

Tell me more! How do you do this with the buttons???

Thanks

Mike

+1, I think I only hear mine though when it is heating up from cold , the car that is ie water gauge

With the ignition on but the engine NOT running, hold down the ECON and the bottom left of the four oblong buttons for airflow. The display changes and then you hear all the flaps calibrating.

Great, i'll give that a try later, thanks

Brilliant, it really works B)

ha just came back to this thread to find Andyvee has beaten me to it! Andy is 100% correct, thats the procedure, it may not cure it completely, but i would be very surprised if it didnt work!

Nice. Haven't seen that procedure listed before so I'll give that a go. As said, I only really notice it when the ignition's on, but without the engine running. And strangely it does it even with the system in 'off' mode (after the button modification obviously :))

Stu's Common Issues page just lists:

Climatronic Clicking

A clicking noise can be heard from the Climatronic system, normally when the heating is cold. A simple adjustment with the dealer diagnostic system can cure this

I'll drop him a line and get this routine added to the page emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Just tried it. Like it.

Weird how the display changes like that! Any other tricks with button combos? Don't want to go pressing random buttons together in case the ejector seat detonates ;-)

Brilliant..now much less clicking and clunking going on with mine too, though the strange stuff on the displays while the process is running was slightly worrying :o

CC had a good workout this afternoon with outside temperature hitting 21°

Thanks for this guys - works a treat; and special thanks to Alan Bluvrs2 for sorting it whilst we waited at the DVLA office!

Tried it out last week. Better, but still some noise.

Improved though :)

Yep - I redo mine once a month when I notice the clicking come back!

Ah right - good to know. So it might require multiple calibration attempts :)

Might have another go this week then, see if it improves a second time round. Seeing as it's probably not been re-done ever in nearly 6 years!

Maybe - I don't bother worrying about it anymore!

My Bolero backlight is more of a pain though!!

I posted on the other thread emoticon-0148-yes.gif

DOH!

I will go and look now!

Not much help probably, but just so you knew it was there ;)

tried it twice and i must say i havent heard it much now.

Reset mine, and the clicking is all but gone, there is a faint noise but not noticeable compared to how it was ie. someone behind the dash tapping!

Great fix!!!

Decided to get everything sorted out on climatronic now that the clicking has gone. Just had the air con regassed this morning by a local mobile air con specialist -- £45 cash. With all but the centre vents closed, and the system on LO and recirc, my food thermometer in the centre vents is now showing -2 degrees! Couple that with no more clicking, and I couldn't be happier!

Mike

Was it just a regas or did he test for leaks?
