Sat Nav in Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

Hi, we recently ordered the monte carlo with the amundsen sat nav as extra. Today our dealer rings to say it has been removed from the list as there is a micro chip shortage for them -this is apparently affecting the columbus system too. If this is true then fine. My question is, though, can it be replaced with something else? I can't really see Skoda not having some kind of back up? Does anyone know about this and if there is anything we can suggest?

Thanks in advance for any help/info.

Raquel

Not heard any detail on this - but if the chip/IC is supplied from or the foundry is in Japan;

then the supplier may be one of those affected by the Japanese Earthquake. Electrolytic

capacitors are on the shortage list too..... well, the GOOD quality ones that is.

Thanks for your reply. The dealer did say they were from japan. Do you know if any alternative sat navs could be used instead?

Once they're available again you could fit one at that point (they're very easy to fit later). I'd mention to your dealer that you want one when they're available via Skoda accessories again, meantime just use the basic stereo that comes with the car?

If you want to have satnav from the time you get the car, there is a Kenwood unit designed specifically for VAG cars, when fitted it looks like a columbus more or less - it doesn't look like an aftermarket head unit. They're about £900 i think though.

Having the dealer supply an Amundsen once they are available again would be my choice. Hope it helps.

I would ask for the sat nav to be 'held' at the option price rather than as a part price and just fit it yourself.

Thank you! I have to admit that, regardless of the sat nav issue, i am very excited about becoming a skoda owner!!

Good good - hope we get to meet you at a Yorkshire Meet sometime soon! :thumbup:

Haha Skoda owners are nuts though! :-) naming them, treating them like offspring, telling anyone who'll listen how great they are...

They are good cars :-)

Hmm not heard anything from my dealer and ordered the satnav/monte carlo too ... Even spoke to them today

Hi and welcome aboard.

Adamc260 - when did you order yours? We only went in for a test drive in a fabia and ended up signing for the monte carlo last friday!
