507.00

5W30 507.00 Semi Synthetic iirc?

QUANTUM LONG LIFE 3 507 is what I will be using, it can be used in virtually all VAG engines. Used it in every other VAG car and its great stuff

MOBIL 1 0W-40 Fully synthetic.

Recommended by my dealer, expensive but worth it in my opinion.

for the vRS you require a VW 502 approved engine oil (read the label on the back of the can) with a viscosity grade of either 5W/30 or 5W/40. Personally, i'd go for a fully synthetic rather than a semi but that will be your choice. For topping up i am currently using Castrol Edge, which can be had for £ 30 (4 litre can) from Asda's. Other merchants/vendors are available but i think this is probably the best price you will get.

Also, check out this link which provides a lot of good information on engine oils Oil Questions which i agree with.

Its the same oil in diesel and petrol.

That oil is formulated for a diesel engine, the 1.4 tsi in the vRS is a petrol.

Petrol/Diesel: Both

5W/30 is fine and meets the handbook requirements. Halfords car configurator even picks it up if you enter your number plate

I know what a tsi is - 2 people in my family have one - one a turbo and the other super and turbo.

Quote from the Description:

"It is recommended for all types of modern automobile engines, especially the high-performance petrol and diesel engines and is approved for the demanding specifications of VW, BMW and Mercedes Benz."

502.00 approval is for fixed servicing.

The same oil for Diesel and Petrol has been the case since 2002 and possibly before for the VAG group.

Appreciate that Halfords configurator may point you in this direction, but the description lifted from their site gives the following;

specifications of Mobil 1 ESP 5W/30 Oil

  • SAE 5W30
  • ACEA C2 C3
  • API CF / Jaso DL-1
  • Meets the requirements of Mercedes Benz 229.31/229.51; VW 504 00/ 507 00; BMW Longlife - 04, PSA B71 2290, Porsche C30
  • Low Ash Content, Low Sulphur and Phosphorous content
  • 5 litre bottle

Note that it is an ACEA C2/C3 and API CF. neither of these are the main standards for petrol engine oils, ACEA Ax or API Sx.

However, having said that, i have just had a look at the Mobil UK site and came up with the following;

According to ExxonMobil, Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 is of the following quality level:

API CF

Volkswagen (Gasoline) 502.00 / 503.00 / 503.01

Volkswagen (Diesel) 505.00 / 505.01 / 506.00 / 506.01

All VW engines with the exception of Unit-Injector / Pump-Duse TDI without LongLife Service and without DPF between 1999-2003 and R5/V10-TDi before model year 2006

API CF is pretty old technology (circa 1990) and is in fact something i specified it in a heavy duty lube oil spec in 1998.

For any petrol engine i would look specifically for ACEA A classifications and or API S classification as well as the correct VW approval as well.

Thanks for all your replies people. Still a bit confused though!

Amazed there should be so many variations in type from dealer to dealer. Would of thought it would be one type eg 5w40 for it full stop.

Kind of correct, 504.00 is the correct spec for the 1.4TSI, however as 507.00 is higher then 504.00 is is also suitable.

We use 507.00 which is long life oil because we only now stock two different types of oil as it was getting somewhat stupid. A good 10w40 oil for older stuff and basic petrol engines and 5w30 for everything else.

Book says 502.00 for fixed servicing / hope that's right as I'm about to buy some. Maxidot telling me to check oil..

+1

I bought 5L of Mobil 1 fully synthetic 502.00 for £42

Asda sell Castrol Edge 5/30 504.00/507.00 for £30.00[4ltr].

asda are doing a 4 ltr of castrol magnatex for £26 its 5w-30 A3/A4 and its says meets VW50200 on the back, so i assume this is ok for my new fabia vrs

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1002-skoda-engine-oil.aspx

Hopefully this link helps.

I have used opie oils with my previous RX8 and used them to order a 5 litre bottle of Castrol Edge. I thought they are about as reasonable as it gets, although I understand on occassion a supermarket deal can beat them slightly but they do price match.

Hope it helps.

Confused.com!

Hi All,

This puts together information I have researched, mostly by contacting Skoda Customer Services, regarding the owner maintenance of the Fabia II VRs 1.4.

Fuel is 98 octane or above; 95 only in an emergency (prolonged use of 95 not recommended)

Oil is Castrol Edge (recommended) 5W-40

Tyre pressures (converted to psi from Bar, rounded to whole numbers) 36psi Front, 34psi Rear (up to 43 loaded, Estate; Hatch may be different, please check)

If you doubt the accuracy of this information please contact Skoda Customer Services for confirmation.

Regards

Tony
