R32 arb doesn't fit 4x4!help

Featured Replies

hi,just bought front and back anti roll bars from VW asked for 2002 R32 arbs. received this week 19mm rear (1ko511409bh) front 22mm (1ko411303aq) went to fit the front arb to my 4x4 octavia 1800T to find that the front mounnts are moulded to the bar, and are a different shape with steel bracket moulded to the rubber bush, which doesnt line up, and are entirely the wrong shape. have they supplyed the right bars ? and if so do i have to hacksaw the steel bracket off and rubber bush, and then fit poly bushes instead? can anybody help? cheers ralph

They are mk5 R32 arbs, you want ones for a MK4 R32.

Be careful as I think you have got the MK4 R32 bars but your 1.8T does not have the the same front fitting as the R32 / VRS/Seat Leon Cupra etc. I could be wrong but i think your FARB is the same as the other OCTYs/Golfs in that your ARB goes over you drive shafts and hooks up to a Drop link and then to the wishbone. Whereas the R32 Octy VRS/Audi TT/S3 and Seat Leon Cupra have the the FARB go underneath the Drive shaft hook up to the longer drop links that then hook up to the Suspension strut.

So don't think you are going to have much joy.

Hope I am wrong but don't think i am.

P.S you can make them fit by attaching them to your suspension strut and using longer drop links from VRS, but only if your strut has the bracket on it, which i bet it does not.

No that's the vRS / FWD only

the Octy 4x4 is the same as mk.4 R32

You will have to do the 'spare wheel well' mod - there is a bit of protruding bodywork that must be hammered in

Eh, you lost me there, the VRS is the same as the R32?

In which case i think you mean the 4x4 is the same as the VRS as well then.

The none R32 4motion is not the same as the R32/VRS.

or am i missing something or talking poo.

.. sorry, didn't mean to confuse further :giggle:

The Octavia 4x4 and the Golf R32 share the exact same suspension setup* ( which is basically the same as the vRS ? )

The front ARB should fit without issue**

The rear ARB will require a 'gentle wee tap' to allow unrestricted fitment***

IIRC, its 4motion Golfs' and Boras' which have a front setup unable to use the R32 front ARB. This was one of the reasons I chose an Octavia 4x4 rather than a Bora 4motion

* ok apart from the cast wishbones ... exactly the same

** ok, something will be siezed ...

*** ok, quite a 'healthy whack' ...

I am with you now buddy...

P.S who can confirm if i have a quick rack. Got part number 1J2422105 off a TT. Seems this is listed for Bora and other Golfs yet a few have fitted it on there cars and confirm a 2.5 turn? help don't want to fit it, if is the same as VRS.

Also are all TT's a quick rack or just the 225 versions.

iirc mark just the 225 ones are quick racks

i take it thats what mine will look like (4x4 octy), with a smaller arb though(stock)

Yep the stock ARB is much thinner.

the droplinks, track robs & hubs are stock

wishbones + balljoints are TT, driveshafts are S3, arb is h&r R32 (same fitment/shape as oe R32 arb)

everything fits together in the same locations

going a little off topic but i found a full r32 suspension( full as in all shocks and springs) will they be a straight swap with a 4x4 octy and will there be any benefit?

I would imagine it would be an improvement. TBH not actually been in a stock R32, so cann't comment on oe ride quality

What sort of price ?

Did you have to space the wishbone balljoint with a washer to allow the TT balljoint not to hit the drive shaft. I thought they were longer than the std ball joint if used in std hub carrier.

No I didn't. Its same clearance/fitment as oe 4x4 balljoint.

The Octy 4x4 hub is more or less the same as the TT hub iirc.

its more for the taper of the balljoint, so its sits correctly in the vrs hub

They're on ebay at 99p start with no reserve and no bids so don't know how much they're going to go for

If I where looking at a long wait until being able to afford something decent aftermarket, I'd give them a go ~ same goes for S3 ARBs'

~ they can't mess up the ride anymore than skoda have

not weighted for the octavia tho, they are weighted for the golf.....so not strictly right, i wouldnt fit shocks from another car to mine

True lol

As for the weight they may be a little stiff on an octy, the 4x4 octy estate weighs 1390kg where as the R32 5dr is 1512kg, so will probably be a stiffer spring. iirc someone on here said the R32 engine only weighs 30kg more than the 1.8t.

Got to be worth a shot if i can get them cheap enough, while I save up for coilovers

I thought about that, but I'm running KW v3 for an R32, no problems ( OK, I know they're adjustable )

There isn't that much different between the curb weights - Octy 4x4 1470Kg - R32 1447kg ~ howcome the weights I found differ from yours ?

Unladen weight: 3334lbs/1512kg | Gross vehicle weight: 4410lbs/2000kg

The figures i used are from parkers.co.uk, unladen weight for R32 is 1512kg. where did you get 1447kg for the R32? cant find that figure in the link you posted

Edited by 4x4 1.8t Octy

that was from another site ~ the more I searched, the more confused I got :drunk:

500kg difference between unladen and gross ?

but I guess the main thing is the difference between R32 vs Octy 4x4 seems small

they have already got to £50 with 6 days left yet so may not be getting them anyway
