Rolling Road

Featured Replies

Had my VRS on a rolling road yesterday and after the first run there seemed to be a problem, the guy running the rolling road said it wasn't possible to run it on my car as it dropped power while running, he also said that he has had problems with a few new shape Audi's.

I have done a bit of searching on the internet and only found a bit of info which says that the FL which I have most of electronics but not the body needs to have all the wheels turning or the abs shuts down the power.

Anybody had this problem or know how to get around it?

Cheers

Darren

Very very interesting!

I got a poor result on a dyno locally and something happened during the run, very similar to what you describe! My car is a very late pre-FL with the CR engine, but not the LE interior etc. I am booked for another run at a different dyno on the 14th which incidentally is a 4WD dyno-I'd love to hear if there is a way to guard against this-maybe turn off ESP just? Or remove a fuse? Will a 4WD dyno make any odds anyway, as the wheels won't be driven?

I also have a Superchips Bluefin which I believe is a mild enough map, but will be doing before & after runs anyway. Regardless of the dyno, I should at least see the difference!

the chances of the back wheels sitting on the rollers on 4x4 dyno are slim, as these move foward and back for different size cars and will not be needed. Taking the fuse out for the abs might help as it will shut the abs down but the brakes still work and allow the car to have a full dyno run.

I got 114BHP on the dyno and it sounds like your car is the same ecu and engine as mine, the 4wd dyno won't make a difference as the rear wheel will still not be turning, I have been told the only dyno in the country is in Brighton which has the facility to link belts to the rear rollers and spin all wheels, I got mine mapped yesterday and I can notice a big difference, I should be at at least 205bhp.

Let me know how your run goes on the dyno. maybe with abs fuse pulled and make sure they run it without the handbrake on as this effects power too I found this out when playing in the snow and the maxidot tells you to take the handbrake off and reduces the power so you don't brake anything.

Will post up before & after plots if poss. :) I'd be more interested in torque figure-should be good for 300lb/ft. Good point re handbrake too, although it didn't seem to restrict my snow fun too much... :smirk:

I should hope you do get 300lb/ft as a Shark Stage 1 on a PD140 gets close to that (allegedly) emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Our forum (vagowners.co.uk) is organising a rolling road day for a couple of weeks time, so I asked the question to the organisers - apparently the ABS Modulator needs to be unplugged on the latest VAG models before they can be run on the rollers - easy to do and not a problem according to them.

Cool, that sound like the info I need. I can go to the rolling road tomorrow to test it, do you know where to unplug it from? Is it under the bonnet?

Thanks for the info

I had this exact problem. Had to have mine disconnected at each wheel and it is right a pig to do!

Mine ran 298lb/ft at RS Tuning Andy :)

I did have an interference problem on Awesome's rollers with my previous Octy2 vRS TFSi. They couldn't sort the issue there and then, just said it happens with cars sometimes emoticon-0112-wondering.gif - meant I got an inaccurate reading and a very wiggly set of graphs as a result!

Hmmm, bit of differing info there. Any specific location info Alan? I have VCDS if it can be temporarily diabled with that?

Thanks for all input.

There is 3 fuses that I can see that are linked to the abs, 2 under the bonnet which control the pumps and I think the important one is in the dash fuse box as this is for abs and traction control control unit, I might be able to try on a dyno later today with these fuses removed.

Interesting read this. Mine is the late pre FL with the TSI 2.0 lump so guessing mine will be the same. Keep the info coming lol :)

I have tried with the abs/traction fuse out and it did not make any difference it still would not run, it seems it is only the 170bhp engines, Chris at CCTuning also said he has had problems with Audi A3's with the same engine setup.

I have been told about a dyno in Brighton that can spin the rear wheel when the fronts are turning the dyno, I think this is the only way to get a reading. :(

I know, Ben told me when he put exactly the same map on mine. But, as mine has done 130K now the engine will be looser than yours so no doubt gets 301lb/ftemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

If it's just the diesel 170 engine's It noticed a while back if the cars stationery the engine wont rev above 3000rpm. Might be a link there or nothing to do with it.

I have had mine mapped and I can redline it, when its on the dyno its run in 4th gear so it shouldn't make a difference.

There doesnt seem to be any real reason why only certain FL Octys wont run on a Dyno, before mine failed on AMD's I was let to believe that it was only DSG Octys that wouldnt work, so was very surprised mine didnt ( Manual ).

The guy @ AMD did say that the A4 they had the same issue with previously was also Manual, & whenever they ran any of the newer VAG cars, it was hit or miss whether they would get a readout, the only way to tell was to run it on the rollers and see.

So dont assume that any FL Octy will not work.

Will just save the pennies for something else :D

I've been in contact with jcdub, a member on here who has had a CR on a dyno and had to remove two fuses-I've asked him to post up the info, so hopefully he'll be on soon!

Perhaps those for ABS and ESP/TC ?

Hi guys

I have taken some pics of the fuses you need to remove from the fuse panel on the drivers side and the one beside the air filter under the bonnet, unfortunatly I cant post them as I'm not a freedom member, but I can send them to skodaphile for him to post here.

Once removed the car will run smoothly on the dyno :)

PM sent to skodaphile

Cheers

OK Pick taken and they will be posted shortly through skodaphile as I'm not a freedom member :(

Anyway thae both of the fuses out shown in the pics and you should get a smooth run on the dyno.

P.S My car is a early CR RS and the owners manual had a fuse diagram of both the one under the bonnet and the one on the drivers door. Unfortunatly the owners manual shows a fuse diagram for the RS PD Octavia. This is different to the fuse layout on my common rail

RS! Something to watch out for. I have contacted Skoda to see if they can send me out a diagram or new owners manual that suits my car. This

should be sorted soon. Skoda are calling me back tomorrow...

Cheers

JC

P.S I didnt think my other post went through hence the re-post

Jcdub, I ran mine on the dyno yesterday with the abs/ecs fuse from the dash removed, didn't take any from under the bonnet except when I pulled the data bus fuse but then the car wouldn't start and now I have an airbag fault :(

Can you email me the pics as I can try again soon on the dyno (maybe tomorrow) [email protected]

Also my manual and the card in the dash for the fuses are made for fuse boxes which are opposite handed to mine so I have to go off the numbers instead of the diagrams which is annoying.

@DLW

Email sent with pics hope it works out
