Scout wheel sizes?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm struggling to find details of exactly what size wheels are fitted to the Scout.

I have one being delivered in July and I'm thinking ahead to get a spare set of used wheels for Winter use, but can't find details anywhere on exactly what size wheels I need to find. There are number of sets VW / Audi wheels about, but I am concerned that I will make a wrong buy and any help / pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

Tony

You will need either 16"x6.5J or 17"x7J, with an offset between ET35 and ET50, and PCD of 5x112. ;)

Many thanks, exactly what i needed to know.

Just out of curiosity, I thought all Scout had 17" wheels, are the 16" size for use with higher profile winter tyres?

Thanks again

Tony

That's right - the standard Proteus wheels are 17x7J ET 50, the Spitzbergs fitted by Tmos on his are the same but ET45, so the track is 10mm wider.

Yes approved sizes are:

205x55R16

225x50R17

and unusually with the Flash skoda winter alloys 17x6J

205x50R17

So still low profile but narrow - quite an rare size. I think the Scout needs 17" wheels to look right.

Thanks Les - that info just helped me nab some suitable Audi A4 alloys for my winters. I have a mental block with wheels/tyre sizes & 10 minutes away from the screen will have forgotten the size of both the Audi & Scout wheels!

Having the winter wheels will allow me to drop my Proteus wheels off for a refurb in plain silver!

Sounds good - I don't know where you are but a1 alloys did a good job on my Spitzbergs that had some stone chips and scuffs. Not as good as a full strip and recoat but for £45 a wheel I am very happy. They are based in South London mind.

I am going to get a set of winter wheels & tyres when I get my Scout (I think it will be delivered in July too), but am planning to go with 16" steel wheels.

I always believed the standard tyres fitted to 17" Proteus wheels were 225/50R17, and the approved tyre size for 16" wheels was 205/55R16 (matches what Les said above).

Leaving aside supply issues (I mean because they are a less popular size) why shouldn't I fit 205/60R16 winter tyres to 16" wheels? They are a much closer match (0.7% difference) to the rolling circumference of the 17" Proteus wheels with 225/50R17 tyres than the approved 205/55R16 tyres (3.8% difference).

Also, Les, I've never heard of the 17" winter alloys, can you tell me a bit more please?

Also look up the Skoda Germany's guide to approved rims, tyre sizes and ratings :)

Shame Skoda UK are incapable of producing something similar.

The 16" Audi ones I got have the right PCD & offet (45) but are 7J.

From what I can google that's the width of the rim, inside edge-to-edge. Is that going to be a problem?

Too far for me! I'm getting quotes at the the moment. Going to be easier if these 16"'ers work out. My first quote for the 16" is £240 full refurb from thewheelspecialist.co.uk

Nope, should be fine.

Phew! Thanks,

For awhile I envisaged a quick polish & relist! They were cheap, local & buyitnow so needed to move fast
