2.0TSI stage 1 vs . . . .

Featured Replies

So with my imminent remap through the shark group buy I was wondering what cars I can expect to keep up with that I couldn't before.

That is of course if the other car is stock.

Being fair its not really all about power. Anyone can drive fast in a straight line but but if they cant drive it properly through the twisties then it doesnt really matter. I see a lot of fast cars think they can pull away on the A and B roads, my most recent encounter was with a FRS MK2. Fantastic car and much quicker than mine, but he hadnt a clue how to drive it properly.

I know from a reliable source that a vRS with Revo Stage 1 would kill an Astra VXR

Revo reckon about 266bhp from a stage 1 (266bhp *might* be a tad optimistic so I've rounded down to 260bhp) and with a kerb weight of 1,360kg (Skoda shaved 35kg off the facelift vRS) that gives a power to weight ratio of circa 190bhp per ton (fag packet calculation so don't shoot me down in flames if it's not exact).

From http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cardata/ cars with similar power to weight ratios as standard are:

TTS - 195

Passat R36 - 178

Vectra VXR - 177

Insignia VXR - 180

S3 - 183

Mazda 3 MPS Mk 2 - 188

Megane 250 cup - 181

Cupra R - 193

Obviously gearing, power curve, front wheel drive, four wheel drive, road type and condition, driver ability etc will all affect the performance charactaristics but these are cars that I would expect a remapped vRS to be able to keep touch with (some more than others).

At the end of the day it's how it drives and feels after your remap, and whether you go Shark or Revo you'll be seriously impressed.

i think its the kid in me that wants to know really. I have an engineering degree so I am fully aware of all the factors that affect the car etc etc. Just wanted to know which other cars I can now keep up with.

Good info Jonno cheers

Worth remembering if any of those were remapped a remapped vRS would struggle to keep up, with the possible exception of the R36 as it's not got a turbo so remap potential limited.

not just the peak figures. for example a k03 tfsi might only peak at 275hp @ stage 2+, but it makes that 275hp from 4500-7000 rpm. its the amount of area underneath the power curve that matters, not peak figures.

i know @ stage 2+ my car was as quick as a stage 3 VXR which had 292hp, as quick as a stage 1 3MPS 290hp, and could keep with a focus RS mk2 from a rolling start which my mate was NOT happy about especially when i said i only had about 250hp. he then got it mapped but i never let him have another try lol

now for comparison purposes the stage 1 TSI with 260Hp and less weight also makes alot more torque than the TFSI so id imagine similar performance to be close'ish to a stage 2+ TFSI

Other cars you may shock then.

Porsche Boxter - 192

Tesla Roadster -196

Honda S2000 - 191

Lotus Elise - 158/189/197

From experience it is not all about BHP but how you use the power. Straight line acceleration is not a factor but how you use the available power correct gear for speed etc and road positioning means that a 1275 gr mini if driven correctly MAY outron a a 300bhp car or any make

Without sounding pious unless you do this on a track or the motorway or long clear roads then you will find complete mutters in Ford Focus 1.6 or similar (as I found out last night) who will kill you or innocent drivers of oncoming cars with complete disregard to any common sense or safety. Best to let them once you've initially wiped the floor with them. Sometimes being a netter driver is knowing when to slow down. A BMW 525i driver almost killed himself and his passenger a few weeks ago trying to erase the "shame" of being left for dead on a long straight. I finally sat back 30 yards off the next car and watched as the BM ended up on the opposite grass verge whilst trying desperately to overtake me and a Transit, which pulled out as the BM tried to force it's way past. It would have been amusing apart from the sheer panic and gesturing at him by oncoming traffic and his female passenger. Anyway back to the thread....

Excuse the spelling errors above. The iPod touch keyboard and predictive text has made me look illiterate.

Dunno but I couldn't keep up with a Fiesta Zetec S the other day, probably because I still want/need a driving license.

Straight road rolling from 30 though the TFSi/TSi engine has bags of pull right through the rev range making it a much quicker car than the 250-260bhp figure may suggest.

There are plenty of Videos of remapped Edition 30 Golfs running about 330bhp easily keeping up with e90 M3's (400+bhp), purely because they are lighter and make lots of the power all the way from 3500rpm to 7000rpm where an N/A M3 will have a very high in the rev range power and torque peak.

My mate has an M3 and it really is something else, it would make mine look like it's going backwards.

It might make yours look like it's going backwards but he was talking about something with 330bhp.

Take a look at this vid and whilst I don't know the power output of the ED30, based on the mods you would say it has 330bhp.

So a TSI with Stage 1 should be as quick as a stage 3 VXR, a stage 1 3MPS and should keep with a Focus RS Mk 2 from a rolling start, very good

Now that I have the map on, this is the list of cars I have surprised, all from a low speed rolling start to the speed limit.

Audi S4 - couldn't pass me.

BMW Z4 (not sure which engine) - left him behind

Fabia vrs 1.4tsi - left behind

Golf v6 - left behind

Focus rs mk1 - left behind

Celica gt - left behind

Civic type r mk1 - left behind.

Guillardo - smoked me. (sounded amazing)

Mini cooper (the real fast one) - left me on corner and I caught up on straight so about equal overall.

Basically the shark map is lovely and I thought updating this would help others who want to brag like me.

I miss my Octavia loads. A guy in work had a mk2 focus RS, and was devastated that i was latched on to his back bumper ( i also lied and said it was only 260hp as well which of course makes it worse for him lol)

Would love to see how yours compares to my stage 2 Fabia vRS TSI. Mine was consistently beating stage 2+ K03 GTIs at inters, although dare i say, given an extra 20m he would have pipped me i think. But hes running 280hp and above 300lbft.

Id say on the road mine is somewhere between stage 2 TFSI vRS and a stage 2+ TFSI when rolling, from a rolling start, but much quicker from standing start or very low speed. Anywhere higher up the speed range and the advantage is gone in mine

Will have to see how we compare on Monday Sy :p

Harry yours is slow.

Sy I expect you would pull away from me from a rolling start but not by much then as you say at higher speeds I would start to come back. I find that after 6k revs mine really does start to die and needs the next gear.

**** off harry, that aint fair lol. Your running 130hp more than me lol. And my tyres are shagged from rockingham

When i was ko3 stage 2+ i had a play with a 2004 M3. Even though it was hard work i could keep up with him, he was doing better on the corners and i had the edge on the straights making up for the corners. However he got desperate and started dangerous manouvers so i backed off.

It was probably stolen. :giggle:

I can't see what car you got, TFSI or TSI? I would expect not to be too far off a M3 from rolling start with my DSG from a rolling start upto say 80.

With a K03 it will more than likely be a TFSi, the TSi has an IHI turbo. I don't think there is stage 2+ software available for the TSi.........yet!

Not sure on the M3 tbh, I have seen one bury the loud pedal from a standing start and my god did it shift, I know for a fact it would leave my lowly stage 1 Tfsi for dead! :'(

Yeah mine is the TFSI. I don't know about a standing start but once on the move it definately gave the M3 a run for it's money to the point the driver got desperate that he couldn't get away from a Skoda.

Stage 2 on a TSI should be equivalent to a stage 2+ on the TFSI because the + was for uprated fuel pumps that the TSI doesn't need.

Off the lIne the M3 will take on all of ours except maybe Harrys octavia just because of the rear wheel drive. Rolling start though we have a chance. Thanks for clearing up the K03 IHI thing for me.

I guess the turbo characteristics are different. I'l look it up
