Sunday Times ad

Featured Replies

Full back-page Yeti ad in my Sunday Times (main news section) today.

Do Skoda know something we don't about the easing of future Yeti supply? Or is it just a vanity ad or brand building or some such?

It's very strange how over the last couple of weeks Skoda have started promoting the Yeti with a TV ad that's led to SWMBO saying 'not again!' and now the press thing, perhaps the waiting time was starting to shorten and it needed a bit of a boost. It's almost as if it's become a bit of a prestige thing boasting on how long their customers have to wait :)

There was also a 3/4 page ad in Saturday's Guardian.

Perhaps it's too fight off competition from the Audi Q3?

Or to justify another price hike??

Or to be able to make a bigger profit on their nearly-new demo cars???

May be a sign that VW is going to move Skoda downmarket - there is a post somewhere about VW making Skoda downmarket as its canabalising its sales.

I am unable to see the logic in that arguement.

To down market a range, you advertise in 2 top-end papers?

I see Skoda drivers as people who value fundtionality over superficial looks and "bling" and therefore it is perfectly suited to the middle class.

Not everyone go to forums and for them cars are just cars, therefore Skoda would want to maximise their exposure whilst quality and equipment are still high to capitalise on the opportunity to advertise on "cheaper VW with the same quality and equipments" before VW go and strip the cars.

If you look at the thread started by Xue Ren, you'll see that Skoda are planning to increase productive capacity to increase output of the Yeti (no doubt in response to higher than anticipated demand) but to justify the investment in such capacity they'll need the current levels of demand to be maintained, or increased, into the future. That's ample explanation of the current wave of advertising ... no need for the wild conspiracy theories folks!

I think it's far more likely that the new Chinese factory will be supplying the Chinese, Indian and Australian markets - which will only release a small part of the European output for use in Europe.

But returning to the original question, it is now week 22, Skoda are now making the MY2012 spec vehicles, Skoda Auto have updated their brochure... but we are still waiting for Skoda UK to replace their Jany 2011 brochure and get the configurator working again. Why are they spending money advertising cars, when the would-be purchasers cannot get a current brochure or spec their chosen car on the Skoda UK website? Isn't the advertising department in contact with the rest of marketing?

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the Yeti advert on the childrens cartoon channels over the last week or so (not me watching the cartoons I'll add now)!

Its nice that they are advertising the Yeti, but you've got to be able to cope with the demand when the public go looking for one. By all accounts they cant keep up with the demand without the ads running every ten minutes....

Oh well, the signs are we wont be members of a very exclusive club for much longer :( Let's hope they don't become tooooooooo popular goodness knows what it will do to our residuals emoticon-0106-crying.gif

I really don't think that is going to change too much. As mentioned elsewhere, Skoda produced about 40,000 Yeti worldwide last year. Nissan sold a little under 40,000 cashcows in the UK alone last year.....

They would have to ramp up production about 10 fold to compete with the cashcow. Skoda are a low production volume manufacturer (compared to Nissan et al.) I see more Astons, bentleys, Ferrari's, Lambo's and Porshe's than Yeti....... (though that may have something to do with living in North Surrey/South London border emoticon-0136-giggle.gif)
