Is this oil suitable for a remapped 1.8TSi Yeti?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, could anyone confirm that this is suitable for my remapped 1.8TSi? It's the second question ive asked that appears to have gone unanswered in the tech section (so much for the Freedom benefits)

Mogul 6100 Synergie+ 10w-40

As far as I can work out its a decent oil for a very low cost but I'll be changing it every 6-8k (at a maximum) miles for peace of mind. In the 'specs' it says it's a VW 502 00 - 505 00 but im unsure if this means its a semi synthetic (aka fixed service type oil?) or fully synthetic (variable type?)

Is it suitable for the application Ive suggested; a remapped 1.8TSi engine?

Many thanks in advance,

Lee

Sorry, I'm afraid you've lost me a little as you've just linked to the identical page that I did in my post. :smirk:

The technobabble is what I need the help with. Ie is it suitable for my car.

Thanks

The oil looks like a synthetic based oil rather then a semi-synthetic oil but it is not very clear.

I see that being a 502.00 spec grade oil it is a 10w-40 when a 504.00 would be a 5w-30. I note that you are going to change

it more often anyway, as I would do. We have a 1.8TSi engined Octavia FL, bearing in mind that you have a mapped car and no doubt

you had it mapped because you fancied a bit more power, you are more than likely to drive it harder perhaps!. For the smallish

difference in cost why not just go for the fully-synthetc 504.00. These seem to retail for about £50 so although double it is less than

half a tank of petrol so not worth worrying about. A number of members on here highly rate Castrol Edge fully synthetic oil and that is

£40 odd from Opieoils.

I think it will be fine if changed regulary.

Castrol Edge 5w30 4ltr for £30 from Asda, VW spec 504.00[petrol] 507.00[diesel].

Thanks for the responses guys. The only thing ive found with Castrol oil is that it comes in 4 litre containers (as mentioned) so then you have to buy the additional 1 litre bottle. I'll have a look at the Asda offer anyway - I agree also that I may as well buy the good stuff even though its getting changed fairly regularly.

Ah, no worries then. :)

Just to conclude this one; I've just returned from the local motor factors. Bought some really decent Comma pro life 5w-30 long life (specifically developed for these engines running variable servicing) for £40 per 5 litre. Happy with that

Hi TP, it was actually priced up at £56 if I remember correctly but I asked for the best price in three lots and he very fairly came up with £40 each. :smirk: It's supposedly the good stuff so I'm happy after being so unsure. :-)
