Upgrade Bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Have just taken delivery of my vrs and would agree with previous posts that the lights are rather poor.

I know that some owners have replaced the dip beams with Night Breakers but when I had a look at the access to the light units, especially the near side which seems to be blocked by the battery, I wondered how they managed to replace the existing bulbs.

I would be grateful if any one could give me some info on how to do this work.

Thanks in anticipation

I've just got some Osram Nightbreakers for £13 on Ebay! Wouldn't mind knowing this myself!

This ones been done to death on these forums. Use search and your find about 5 threads telling you all you need.

I thought in UK Xenons have to have headlight washer plus an automatic self levelling system ? If not its illegal and an MOT failure ?

Is this still correct ?

I think it depends on the beam pattern and colour.easy enough to swap old bulbs back over for mot though ;-)

MOT's will be getting tougher according to VOSA - i'm not going to bother with xenons but will probably get some decent white/blue bulbs to match the DRL's.

Great...another selfless motorist on the road *cough*

There are moves afoot to ban xenons outright. Too many illegally fitted kits on the road and no regulation regarding them in the UK. The self levelling and washer ruling is an EU thing which allows manufacturers to get away with offering them in this country.

The new vRS ( Mk11) has enough room to change the bulbs. It was the Mk1 vRS that had very little space.

I changed both the dip and main bulbs without difficulty.

how exactly is that selfless ??

the biggest problem is people who have "reflector headlamps ". who when converting don't buy h7r bulbs just h7, and blind everyone.

My mate has just fitted some new bulbs he got off ebay, h7 white/blue, should these have been h7r then? Not to well up on bulbs, I just want swap mine for a set that give the crisp blue look, which kind should I be lookin at?

yeah if we are talking about hid bulbs. if he has reflector and not projector style headlamps it should be h7r so as not to blind everyone.5000k and 6000k are the crispest.if just standard (not hid) h7 are ok

Because you all but admitted yours won't have a self-leveller or washer system and thus every tiny tremor on the road with cause your beam to arc upwards into oncoming motorists eyes.

If im wrong I apologise... but bragging about dodging the MOT test by swapping bulbs gave the impression you weren't getting the job done properly..

Which has a mk 1 fabia got? Reflector or projector?

depends on the model.have a look at the headlamp.if you can pretty much see the bulb from the outside its reflector type

fair enough but at no stage have said this is what I have done, mine are still standard.I was mearly suggesting a way around it if that was a issue at mot stage.also if you look closely at my first post and note the use of a "wink" it was aimed in slight jest.but I do believe youre snipe was uncalled for

Ladies please keep handbags close to ones bodies please

I have put in a set of philips X-TREME vision bulbs much better brighter and whiter than standard

Your "wink" was a way to denote jest; and my *cough* was also a way of denoting jest, sarcasm & displeasure at your advocation or "suggestion" of how to beat MOT tests with dodgy lights.

As for "but i do believe your snipe was uncalled for" - you'll be challenging me to a duel at dawn, or suing me for defamation of character next! Jesus. ;)

ah well.agree to disagree and move on.
