I am gathering some information for a project and need the help of the good people on here.

What I am after, is the Crankshaft to Camshaft timing value on the PD130 engine across a range of different cars. You need VAGCOM to do this.

Criteria

1: Car engine needs to be fully warmed up

2: Connect VAGCOM and go to the Engine measuring blocks, group 4, and the 4th box over (it may be called Torsion Value, depending on version of VAGCOM) write down the value and post in this thread.

3: State car engine code (ASZ or BLT) and year of car

4: State if car is standard or mapped

5: State if car has had a new timing belt

Value is likely to be in the -3 to +3 range, if not you will be looking at the wrong data box in VAGCOM, or your timing belt was fitted incorrectly.

The more people who can contribute the better.

Example of info required

ASZ 2004, Standard, New Belt 2008, Value -1.5

BLT 2007, Mapped, Belt not changed, Value +2.5

Synchro Angle? On my hybrid mapped 2005 ASZ with cambelt change in 2009 (have to check exact date if necessary), it's flicking between 0.6 and 1.1KW

Spot on, your figures are perfect. Many thanks.

Hooray, something that isn't going to be a pain in the arse on this car! Just the mapping, decat, EGR delete, steering wheel to sort out now ;)

If the car is in for a belt change, do you want before and after?

I can get you mine tomorrow. Not interested in non vRS? Could get a PD100 ATD elegance as well if you like?

Both before and after would be excellent

Any PD engine is fine.

I'll try get the numbers for you tomorrow :) I can also get it after cam belt change too as I should be getting it done soon. Could I ask what's this project about or is it under wraps atm?

Edit: would you not want mileage too if your plotting this on a graph or something?

I'll check mine tomorrow, And post results!

ASZ 2005, Remapped, New Belt 2011 @ ~120k miles, Value: 0.0 - 0.6 with very rare blips to 1.1.

Seemed to remain the same from cold to warm, after a 30 minute drive.

ATD 2000/2001(? Y reg), Standard, New Belt 2011 @ ~120k miles, Value: -0.3 to -0.6, occasionally 0.0

This is the that car suffers from difficulty starting when "cold" (left overnight) :(

Many thanks. Cold start unlikely to be the Sync Timing Figures as they are within spec.

Note though that an occasional 0.0 can sometimes mean the cam or crank sensors are actually "Out Of Range". Should show an error on VAGCOM though.

Cold start problems can be a number of things. Coolant temp sensor, Glow Plugs and relay, Camshaft sensor or engine speed sensor.

No worries. Glad I could be of help. All curious as to what you're up to though I think! :giggle:

Standard BLT 2007, Belt change when I bought it 4 weeks ago. Readings flicking between 0.6 and 1.1 with 1 reading of 1.7 during a 25 minute run from cold to fully warmed up.

ASZ standard

Belt changed roughly 10 thousand miles ago.

flicks between 1.1-1.6
