A/C compressor "buzzing"

Featured Replies

Every time i switch on my air condition there is a buzz sound coming from the hood. The sound is getting louder as the engine revs up.

I visited my local dealer and he checked it out. The aircon compressor is faulty and will be replaced under warranty. There was no other problem except that sound.

I think that as long as everything is under warranty, everything is OK.

And, it makes me think that the AC compressor has a lot of work to do in mediterranean countries emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Sure, but it is quite unacceptable for a 12 month car with 16.800 Km on clock. My previous Octavia MK1 1.6 (2002) never never had any a/c problems. On the contrary my previous Fabia 1.2Htp (2006) once needed re-gas the a/c compressor.

Today called me my dealer. The new compressor arrived at his place, so i booked the car for Friday morning. He told me it is about two hours working (Ok two cups of coffee). The cost of the compressor is 1.350 euros. Thank God we are under warranty.

By the way today was really hot (33 Celsius degrees) and the compressor war making really weird noises, but thankfully still blowing cold air.

Wow, 1350 bucks!!! emoticon-0104-surprised.gif Thank God I bought the extended 4 years warranty! Based on what I read and experienced, electro-mechanical components, apart from normal wear, usually show production defects very soon. I always advise using devices intensively during warranty time. It is not 100% sure, but it usually works with Electronics and PCs.

I just returned from my dealer. The compressor has been replaced. Unfortunately the sound remains BUT the air is way too colder than previously.

The real surprise was the mechanic's effort to clean up my alternator from a piece o cloth :o which entered into it and transformed into a very thick black kind of dust. All four of us, mechanic, senior mechanic, sales manager and me were speechless trying to find out how that happened. I never used cloth to clean the car. I always use old newspaper for cleaning glasses, kitchen paper when checking oil level and a piece of leather to dry Roomster after washing.
