Skoda Fabia 1.4 Electronic Control Module Incorrect Coding

Featured Replies

Just run vag com on my engine module and it's thrown up 18020 P1612 Electronic Control Module Incorrect Coding

Anyone have any ideas what this could be or how to change it?

This would need a VCDS to code it!

Have you either had the battery disconnected for over 5days or fitted a new ECU???? B)

Would VCDS-Lite do it? I've recently purchased the car and when we got there it was on charge, but don't think the battery was disconnected. Not sure about the new ECU, guy we had it off said he hasn't put a new one on... but guess a new one could have been put on it somewhere along the lines.

Hi

You would need e registered version of VCDS-Lite to recode it plus the correct coding and WSC number

Thank you. I have re-coded to 00071 (it was 00095) which apparently on here is the correct coding for the module, however it still says it's incorrectly coded so could it be referring to the WSC number?

I have the same ecu as yours...the items that I have underlined and made bold are the same on mine...the WSC on mine tho is 20002...try this.......it might take several goes...even with the main 00071 code being correct....also clear the fault codes first then go back and try recoding the unit!!!!

What does the WSC refer to though? And clear and then recode with the 00071?

What happpens if I recode with the 20002 and it goes wrong? I'm not sure what an incorrect code does, would it just reject it?

There are two different coding areas one for the unit code 00071 the other is the dealer login code 20002!!! B)

Okay but what happens if it's the wrong dealer code?

Okay but what happens if it's the wrong dealer code?

It will change it self....my ABS unit did!!! All new units start of with ooooo in both codes...they then need coding.....the WSC on mine I put in the OEM dealer code...then when I exited and then had a look at the screen it had changed it too something different!! All works all ok tho'..... more to do with the type of machine that it sees is doing the coding??? maybe...don't know really! :(

The WSC stands for workshop code, if you scan the other modules on the car the WSC code is usualy always the same.

Not on my car!!! They are all different and I've only had one new "unit" (ABS) on the car and I've had it from new!!!

Mind you I can see your thinking behind it....bloody computers! :wall:

Just gone out to have a check and... the error code is gone and air con works. Woo!

Try 59773 as a wsc code, this is taken from a working module

The WSC looks as if it's correct due to it now not throwing up the error of being incorrectly coded.

Have just found ANOTHER problem though... on the power steering:

Sounds like the sensor is fubar if it's the original sensor then they are crap....so replace it.....first check that the battery is ok and the earth leads are all ok...and also check that the cables infront or the gearbox that come from the alternator are ok....we are looking for a two wire cable that terminates in a connector near the radiator drain point....these fail due to the wiring being to tight...so a solder and heatshrink job!!!......if all ok then defo the sensor!!!! There is a how to manual on the Fabia VRS website/forum. B)

Okay thank you. Will have a look, how do I know which model the sensor is?

Okay thank you. Will have a look, how do I know which model the sensor is?

The original has a black plastic cap (the only bit that is visable)...the improved ones have a metal cap......get it from Skoda dealer and give them your reg or vin no.

Heres that how to post for swapping the PAS sensor!

http://www.fabia-vrs.com/technical-info/pas-sensor-change/

But check evrything else out first as they are around £100 !!

P.S. also check that the fuses on the top of the batery are all ok and don't have any hairline cracks in them...these will be visiable! B)
