Festival of Speed 2011 - Yetis by the dozen...

Featured Replies

Evening

Anyone been or going to Goodwood's Festival of Speed this weekend? I've just got back from another great day there and the involvement of Skoda is incredible. The rally side of things is 100% Skoda sponsored and there are Yetis as VIP transport, course cars etc etc (okay, a few Superbs, too). Included is the Top Gear Yeti complete with roofrack mounted R22.... No wonder the waiting list is so long, they're all hiding in the woods at Goodwood!

Perhaps it ought to be a SUK sponsored SMOC meet for 2012? I'm sure James can organise something...? ;)

Now that'd be worth a trip from 'up North'.

You should also go round the Skoda stand down the bottom. It has Good and Evil sides. ;)

Kitten and I went through Chichester this lunchtime to visit my father on our way back from sunny Dorset, but he was not in. The queues on the westbound carriageway were HORRENDOUS

Good job we were heading Eastwards.

A meet at Goodwood is a GREAT idea, and I know a GREAT place to stop for a pub lunch :giggle:

Queues for any event in this Country are horrendous. Last year the Police were turning motorists back from the Lotus open-day and they had bought tickets! Fights broke out.. B)

I was there yesterday, and it was awesome (my first time there) As mentioned Skoda were everywhere and the 'Experience' on the Skoda stand was really fun too.

Sadly my car died while I was in there with what now appears to be an injector fault, so not a very happy end to an otherwise great day !

Anyone thinking of going, its well worth it ! :)

Maybe I'll go next year, and I'm going to visit the Shoreham Air Show this year too.

Skoda was the standing out manufacturer in my opinion as they had the fun stand and the forest rally bit they sponsored was a spectacle.

Audi had lots of their range of cars and the R10 anf R18 there which looked great and made that low V10 diesel racket.

Well done Skoda, another step towards getting ride of the cheap and cheerful image.

The "mean side" of the stand in the main complex was staffed by some really good scary guys and gals, kids loved it. And made biscuits in the "lovely" side.

Some new technology please, hybrid please and how about a 160 hp 1.2 TSI with the 7 speed DSG?

I was there Thursday and Sunday. Sunday was stupidly busy.

I liked the amount of Skoda around, I think a lot of people left there with a different perception of Skoda.

The stand was fantastic and impressive, I also liked how Audi just asked for the biggest and the most whitest please.

The rally stage was absolutely brilliant, loved seeing the cars and hearing them blast past. The Fabia S2000 was seriously fast and some superb driving.

Got a ride up the hill in the Fabia vRS too which was fun.

I've gone every year for the last couple of years and it really is a great day out.

Put it in your diary for next year!

I was there on Saturday and took loads of pictures. Still to upload them but as my parents are with me for another two weeks I'll have to see when I get time.

I also got all of us into the Škoda VIP lounge with my Yeti key! Result! Free food, drink and comfy seating for a well earned break!

but as my parents are with me for another two weeks

I misunderstood that quote at first. Just wait 'til you get to my age.

OK finally got around to uploading the pictures and here they are:

First the Škoda stand:

Below is the view from the upper VIP area. You only needed to show your key and you got in where they had free drinks and food.

And note the badge on the steering wheel.

There was also another display area:

Then the Yetis going up to the rally stage. They were VERY dusty from the dust the tractors threw up:

And finally my lonesome Yeti in the carpark at the end of the day. We left a bit late and all the cars around us had left already!

I had a sneaky suspicion you'd be the first to reply to these pics Graham!!! :giggle:

Oi, watch it!!

I've got 2 days off and SWMBO has gone out and NOT left me a list (for a change!!)

:giggle: No, no! I meant as in that the pics are of Škoda rally cars! Since I knew you had had something to do with them at some point I expected you to reply first!

Excellent photos Johann

looks like a great day out, to far away for me though.

Nice photographs Johann, pity the festival is too far away from me.
