Driver's side rear door won't open

Featured Replies

Hi,

After some light use a few weeks back, it seems my driver's side rear door won't open. If I sit inside and press the unlock button on the key fob, I can feel/hear the solenoid trying to do something, but it doesn't seem to be doing enough. If I pull the handle, the door pin rises but the door doesn't release.

Having tried a search, there seems to be a handful of different causes for this. Does anyone have a definitive solution? If not, what are some good first steps to try?

Cheers,

Matt

The door is deadlocked, so it can't be opened from the inside. You could try unlocking the door on the remote whilst hitting the outside panel with the palm of your hand, being careful not to dent it. Otherwise you'll be contorting yourself in the back removing the inside trim panel to gain access so that you can hit the lock directly with something more substantial.

Thanks for the reply. When you say "hitting the outside panel..." - whereabouts on the panel do you hit? I guess it's just under the door handle?

As for removing the door panel, that sounds like fun  I'll have a poke around and see where all the fixings are.

I can open the door now and have a new lock in my possession, just can't get the old lock out!

Thanks for the reply. I've started taking the door card off, but can't work out how to get my torx bit in to get the screws on the left and right edges of the door (as the rubber seal is in the way and doesn't seem like it will pull away enough to give access).

Any tips for removing the two left hand torx screws and the right hand one on the curve of the door?

You can't, you just have to pull the card off with the torx screws still in. If you're lucky they won't break (mine didn't)
