Fabia vRS squeaks!

Featured Replies

My vRS has developed an annoying squeak over the last week or so.

It doesn't squeak everytime and I've no idea where it is coming from. It happens when you take your foot off the throttle, let the speed drop and then go to accelerate again, when you put your foot back on the throttle and the car picks up speed it squeaks.

It has been to the dealership this afternoon and they agree, there is a squeak but they also have no idea where it is coming from. They've checked the Skoda file but no reports of a known squeak! It is going in again next week for a couple of days for them to investigate further but thought in the mean time I'd ask you guys and see if you have had this yourselves or have any idea what it could be!

It is a 10 plated vRS with less than 10k on the clock if that helps?!

I'd ideally like it at the dealers the shortest amount of time possible as they want to charge £75 a day for a courtesy car, never ever had to pay for one before, robbing buggers!!

Thank you :)

you should not have to pay for a courtesy car. refuse. no squeek in mine so can't help you there!

Its a known 'feature' and comes from the drive of the supercharger off the water pump.

It doesnt effect performance and nothing is technically wrong.

They have revised the arrangement of the drive to stop the noise, however the parts cant be retro fitted as they have changed the engine design on the newer ones.

Skoda are aware and have released info on this at APi meetings to dealers.

besides the noise, is it a problem? will something fail? i.e squeek=slip=wear?

Thanks for that! So why doesn't the dealer I went to know this I wonder??

Is it something that could have just started? Wouldn't it have always been doing it? Sorry, probably really silly questions!

Have just rung the dealership and given them the info from Tech1e and they said they don't go to the APi meetings! So that could be why they didn't know anything...

He is going to check it out with Skoda in the morning and get back to me.

Thanks Tech1e, you might just have saved me a lot of hassle next week :)

Thats their problem then, Skoda set up APi meetings around the country and invite staff from there to attend where they give out technical information on current issues, the report from these meetings iirc is then posted on desktop for everyone in the network to read.

Yep, deffo the supercharger belt - mine does it, never had any problems. It is intermittent too, decides when it wants to do it.

As said there is nothing actually 'wrong' its just a characteristic noise.

I had the same on my Ibiza, I fitted a modified water pump which did help but all the Fabias allready have the second gen water pumps anyhow.

Glad I'm not the only one... mines been doing it from about 2000 miles, been in to the dealer twice in the past 3 months with it. First time they couldn't hear it when I took the tech out and replicated it about 20 times. Second time they said 'dunno what it is but I'm sure its fine'

At least someone knew, thanks Tech1e!

I'm bashing my head against a brick wall with the dealership over this now!

I spoke to them last week and asked them to contact Skoda to confirm what Tech1e has said the cause of the squeak is. The dealership is in the middle of been taken over by the Blade Group so the excuse I had last week was they couldn't do anything until the computers had switched over. Fair enough. They promised to ring on Monday to let me know.

Phoned again this morning as hadn't heard anything yesterday to be told that the computers are still down so they can't check with Skoda. The service guy said that although it sounds probable, he still wants to check it with Skoda and log it with them so if anything happens in the future, at least it is recorded on paper that the problem was logged with Skoda who said not to worry about it. Without the computers apparently none of this can happen. What's wrong with picking up the phone?! I asked them what would happen if I took the car in tomorrow as planned and the computers are still not working? The answer which dumbfounded me, the car will stay with us until the computers are back up and running. They have no fixed date for this to happen and still want to charge me £75 per day for a courtesy car! I asked them if this policy still stood as I had a Seat before which was serviced through the Blade group and never had to pay for a car and apparently yes!

I can see where he is coming from on wanting the squeak logged with Skoda to cover himself and myself, should anything happen in the future but surely this is a two-minute job when the computers are back up and running, not a keep the car until the computers are working job! I've just phoned another Skoda dealership, 20 miles away and I'm waiting for them to ring me back. I'd rather travel the extra and get an answer!

I honestly get the impression that because I'm female they can fob me off!

Stop paying for the Courtesy car..... i'm sure if you check the warranty paperwork it will state a similar car should be provided where possible free of charge or for a reasonable charge!!!

£75 per day is not a reasonable charge!!!

you could hire a very nice hire car for that money!

I have heard of a dealership charging a £13 per day surcharge for a courtesy car because the client was estimating putting 600miles on it over a weekend but that's it!

£75 is ridiculous and has mad me very angry.

I've told the dealership that I'm not prepared to pay for something I believe should be provided free of charge or at least, like you say, for a reasonable charge.

I looked them up on the Skoda website and next to them is the Skoda Promise, which states that they will provide a courtesy car if yours will be kept overnight, there is no small print saying they charge for it!

I think it's fair to say we're at stalemate at the moment.

I'm going to ring them again tomorrow morning and if their computer system isn't back up and running, I think I'm going to cancel the appointment and rearrange for a later date when they are able to access Skoda and log the problem, rather than them have my car sitting there for an indefinite time just waiting for the computers to start working again.

The dealership has just rung, the computers are back up and running!

Nothing on the portal so he has spoken to Skoda and they are aware of some reports of a "noise", they recommend spraying the CV boots (?) with some special lubricant. A ten minute job once they get some in, so tomorrow is cancelled and will be rearranged for next week when they have the stuff in.

God only knows! At least the "noise" has been reported so if anything should fail due to the "noise" then I'm covered.

Hi emz4980,

This isn't a fault its a characteristic of the twincharger engine.

The supercharger is brought on line by an electronic clutch; its not always active. The squeek is the supercharger belt slipping ever so slightly when the clutch activates it. Our vRS estate is a late 11 model so only a month of so old with 700 miles on the clock and it's done it from new, though tends only to happen under hard acceleration from low speeds. I believe pretty much every MK2 vRS suffers this problem so i'd just ignore it and forget the dealer visit.
