VMR V710's - FITTED!

Featured Replies

Well, FINALLY, my VMR V710 19" alloy wheels are here and fitted.

Bit of a nervous few hours after the wife told me that the supplier had fitted 235/35 tyres instead of the 225/35 I asked for, but they seem to fit fine without any rubbing, even with my car lowered on coilovers.

I ordered these from Gareth at Niche on the 21st of May, so thats just a little bit over 7 weeks. I went for the Gunmetal colour, 8.5" x 19", ET45 5x112 with the 57.1 centre bore (just incase anyone else wants to order these in the future).

Total cost was £1669.99 inc. VAT. A lot of money for wheels, but then i've got my standard 18" wheels that can be used for winters and the tyres on them are still excellent, so I won't need to buy tyres for a good while (I hope!).

I went for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, I have had them on a previous car and liked them and they seem to get good reviews. I was worried because the existing tyres have a load index rating of 91, and the 225/35 Vredesteins are 88 LI-rated. I was told that this was probably going to be fine, but the 235/35 Vredesteins are 91Y-rated so now no worries at all!

Anyway....

On with the pics! (these were all quick snaps taken with my mobile phone so not the best, i'll try to take some decent ones over the next couple of days with my DSLR)

I've only driven 3 or 4 miles so far (to make sure there was no rubbing, including on full lock) but you can definitely feel a difference on the comfort front but then I was expecting that so not bothered.

I don't like them

Only joking haha.

Looks great, I'm pleased you're happy with them you ought to be for £1700!

Excellent work. Stance and offset looks spot on emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Glad you're happy... like Harry says it's just as well, for the outlay emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Looks cracking. Where in WL are you based oobster?

Sorry I don't like them. Prefer the standard wheels.

Each to their own.

Not normally a fan of Aftermarket alloys but they look spot on

Are they lighter than OEM wheels or were you just after looks?

Cats Pyjama's old chap.

(That means good btw :))

Sorry to say I'm with Tim, I like the wheels a lot, but I just don't think they suit the car, big fan of the Neptunes also. Mega money to! :o

Cheers for the replies folks, no idea if the VMRs are lighter than the standard wheels (they felt roughly the same when I was swapping them over last night).

Not 100% happy with the stance Wardy, I think the front could go down another 4-5mm on the coilovers which I am planning on doing once I am near the place that fitted them. The front wheels also stick out a TINY wee bit more than the backs but not much I can do about that, as i'd need 5mm spacers and as far as I know they aren't available in hubcentric.

So that would mean wheels with ET48mm would be just perfect for the VRS?

But doesn anyone know if with a ET48, will it clear a 6pot BBK? As I'm looking to get a used Advan RS 18", and go with the Forge BBK.

Fair enough - stance is all down to personal preference :)

And as you say, you have some options/flexibility on that with your coilover setup.

On the weight, I think I recall them being the same as an OEM 18, so not too bad. Around 12Kg perhaps?

5s aren't available in hubcentric, no. Not enough metal to work with on the machine really. Lowest I think I recall seeing are H&R 8s?

TBH at nearly £1700 I'd want to be absolutely bowled over by them, and I'm afraid I'm not :-(

Big respect to you for having the balls to see it through though

They looks great, the car looks great. Still would feel uneasy rolling on £1700 of wheels, one mis judged kerb or some scummy youths and its a pricey fix :( do look good tho.

Tbh, its strange because the wheels are awesome as is the car and the combination should work! I think they are sitting to far out, maybe thats whats bothering me.

At the end of the day you are clearly over the moon with them, which is all that matters.

I know what you mean on the offset. I've been having another look at the photos this morning and it's perhaps because they're an 8.5J, coupled with an ET45.

Personally speaking, I find my 8J 18" Turinis, on an ET42 absolutely ideal.

Glad someone else can see it too, you're probably right about the size, Harry's are 19's but somehow look 'made' for the car (even if the paint's falling off them, again!).

Not a fan TBH, I think the only cross spoke style alloys to have are BBS.

I don't know if anyone has fitted 19" Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s to Octavia but they could be a good slightly cheaper option. I was going to say OZ Ultraleggera 19" would be the way to go, but they cost around £1600 a set aswell which is silly money.

I think they look really good actually.

Only need to bring the front down a bit more. B)

That's bloody shocking Harry.

Yikes - paint thickness doesn't look anywhere near thick enough. From that close-up there doesn't even look like there's any lacquer? emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

As is the Ironing board on his bootlid to :)

Only teasing Harry. Who did that Wheel Work? You want to try Triple S in Bradford, the only powdercoater's I would ever use.

RAW wheels of York.

They're painted not powdercoated.

The white marks you see near some of the bolts are where too much lacquer has been applied. I took them back already for this error and it's done it again, as well as the paint peeling. Not happy but it will get done as I have a warranty with them.

Do they work in a Greenhouse Harry? They definately see you coming each time you go back if this isn't the first time

Still inconvenient, and who's to say it won't happen again? If it was me, I would demand a refund and take them somewhere that will do a better job - the local playschool maybe?

P.s. next time the wheels are off, get a detailing brush on them R32 calipers, you should be ashamed of yourself!! :giggle:
