59 Octy II FL Water pump failure

Featured Replies

Hey all.

Was down in Cornwall on the holidays last week, had some great blasts around the country lanes. Drove over to Christchurch on Friday night for a stop off, meal beer etc. Got in the car Saturday morning, and the coolant warning came on.......checked the expansion tank.............EMPTY! Checked under the car, and there is all my coolant!!!

Limped it home(Brum) by topping up every other services, and by Sunday morning, 1.5 litres had gone through. Got it to Trust Skoda in Redditch (opposite where I work thank God!!) and they've just told me the water pump has failed......Anyone else had this after 22000 miles?!?!?!?

Thanks

Neil :'(

Not good, sorry to hear that. Hopefully just an isolated incident!

Not heard of ANY failures like this on the TSI.

have they told you what exactly had failed on it,,,,,,

well if somebody elses fails it will be mine,:( mine has doomed written all over it

Just had our waterpump replaced due to small leak . I check coolant level as part of weekly check and noticed level was falling slightly. Had to add about 1.5L over a couple of months so took it to dealer for warranty fix . They even changed the cambelt for free.!

Have heard of this a few times now on the new TSI's, our American friends have had the problem in their forums. must keep a close eye on fluid level!

not nice to hear! however I would have got recovery, even if it was just to check it rather than risk even more damage.

Running the engine with low/empty coolant might risk warping the head or damaging gasket. Even if you top up, there might be an airlock. A relative had problems on his car after a bodged coolant change, so he called our RAC. Might be worth asking the garage to "sniff" test the coolant and do a compression test.

Make sure they fit the metal replacement, instead of a plastic one and hopefully you wont have anymore problems

Well guys, all the work has been done and it seems to run better now. Low down revs when cold or in traffic are more stable, and there had been a nasty stink when the aircon was turned off. That came from all the coolant leaking onto the aircon pump, so I'm told. Not sure how true it is, but the smell has gone..........

With any luck, as the fluid was still keeping everything cool while driving, the engine should be ok. I guess the only way I'll find out if I've buggered it up is in time.......... :S

  • 3 weeks later...

We've had the engine warning light come on on our 2009 LE CR170. Garage diagnosed it as a failure of the 'second water pump'. No noticeale affect to driving which is a good job as it has taken about 3 weeks for them to get hold of the part. All done under warranty today.

The part number for the replacement is 5N0965561
