Beeb website:

The BBC and Sky Sports will broadcast Formula 1 in the UK between 2012 and 2018 under a new rights deal.

The BBC has been the exclusive broadcaster of F1 in the UK since 2009 but its contract with Formula One Management was due to expire after the 2013 season.

Sky Sports will show every race, qualifying session and practice live.

BBC Sport will broadcast half the races live, as well as the qualifying and practice sessions from those races.

Both companies will broadcast in high definition.

"With this new deal not only have we delivered significant savings but we have also ensured that through our live and extended highlights coverage all the action continues to be available to licence-fee payers."

Races shown live on BBC TV will include the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the Monaco GP and the concluding race of the season.

Oh dear.

I stopped watching the WRC when it went from "Dave" to a pay-station. Let's not hope F1 is going the same way or I'm only going to be left with the BTCC. (which conveniently I like the most)

WTF!!!

A National disgrace!!

Weve lost Cricket!

What next!!

I am gobsmacked ! this is disgusting! :@

Ridiculous. :wall:

Disgrace! I'll just watch the BTCC thanks B)

Just had a bit of a discussion about this at work. Considering F1 is one of the most expensive things the BBC buy, its viewing figures are pretty poor.

"... significant savings ... to licence-fee payers."

So we're going to see a reduction in the license-fee next are we ?

yea right !

I suspect, those figures don't include those who watch via iplayer

Bet this makes up a significant figure

Such bad news....... gutted; just after it had recovered from the ITV debacle!

The BBC have done a good job thus far - but needed to bring in the HD support earlier i think.

Really..... this is depressing news. :S

So, it will cost me around £15.00 a month on Sky to watch the F1 races. I think not. And of course the inevitable return of advert breaks. Having said that the article says they will live on 5live (no pictures though of course) and on BBC Sport website.

No point in watching half a season live, so I'm hoping the audience figures in the UK take a dive - not that I expect Bernie to care.

Bet this makes up a significant figure

A quick internet search shows the highest viewing figures i can find for anything is 1.8m (Come fly with me). Even assuming those figures, F1 still only gets to 7th on that list. Thats assuming none of the other programmes on that list get any iplayer downloads...

As long as the BBC still has good highlights coverage, i really don't mind, as to be honest, i never get the time to sit through a whole grand prix.

Agree on Eddie Jordan; save the money and get rid of the annoying little ******.

Otherwise - very little has to change - the BBC coverage is great!

I'd rather start going to BTCC events most weekends than pay Sky for the F1 coverage.

Ecclestone couldn't care if it was shown on QVC as long as he got his small hands on the filthy lucre.

Blame everyone who subscribes to Sky.

I'm so angry about this I can't put it into words.

Done!!

So i presume that you have to sub to Sky Sports for this? Motorsport is the only sport i watch on TV so i don't see why i should have to pay £35 a month just to watch the F1....It is a disgrace.

F1 on BBC this year has been great.

So cheesed off. News International - yuk!

I've watched Formula One for the past 30 years on TV, even putting up with the 'advert years' on ITV, but I, for one, will not be watching it next season.

I refuse to subscribe to anything that involves Rupert Murdoch, I don't buy his newspapers and I certainly won't pay to watch 200 channels of rubbish on Sky.

I have no intention of watching half the races on free to air next year, what is the point?

To say I am extremely disappointed would be a vast understatement.

Murdoch belongs in jail and his empire winding up. Had a feeling this would happen eventually as Bernie the B@stard wants more money. F1 has become like football, a money making racket. It's no longer a sport. Drivers are just automatons forced to wear corporate sponsored items.

This is ridiculous, I've been watching F1 since I was a nipper, there's no way I can afford to pay £35 a month just for the F1! Talk about alienating your audience, it's not exactly going to pull in more viewers is it?

It's not about viewers - it's about money.
