Yet Another Peeling Spoiler

Featured Replies

Detailed the car last week, and noticed the dreaded laquer failure on the spoiler just starting to take hold. So, cleaned off the wax, phoned a guy who is just starting his own business doing vinyl wrapping, and he came out on Saturday and did this....

£20 inclusive! OK it was not perfect and I had to do a bit of tidying up but excellent for the money.

Would have loved to put up a sunny photo, but it's weeing down

Looks good, I think the carbon on the SE works well. What a bargain price as well

Just like mine :)

Any more pics?? Bit further away etc??

When, if, it stops raining, I will get some wider angle shots posted. From the back of the car, it looks very subtle, as it blends in with the dark tinted area around the rear window. Job would be easier is these damned spoilers weren't bonded to the car. I priced up 3M 1080 to do the job myself, and material alone was working out at £39, so the price quoted really was a bargain. Decent product as well, beads water nicely

Yes, your pics were an inspiration, £20 versus £150 for a bodyshop respray = no brainer.

bloke who did it works for oxfam..

i like it, if i were keeping mine id get that done as its starting to look messy now, top job

Looks fab. My spoiler's lacquer is peeling and needs something doing with it. It's booked in for its service in September, when I'll get them to look over it and see if a warranty claim can be put in for it. But seeing as the car's over 4 years old, I don't hold out much hope. Failing a successul warranty claim, I'm considering going down the same road as you, and getting mine carbon vinyl wrapped. Are you able to provide me with the contact details of the chap that wrapped yours?

Re getting it done under warranty, highly unlikely as paint is 3 years but does not cover plastic parts. The 10 year warranty is for rusting through panels from the inside out.

Cheers MoggyTech. Will give the chap a try if I don't have much luck with the dealer. I'm hoping that despite the car being outwith the warranty period, that they'll look kindly on the fact that I've had my last two services (soon to be three) there. Not that SUK will give a toss.

Cheers again

Other option would be Sales of Goods Act (failed to remain of satisfactory quality for a reasonable period of time), which being a statutory protection is in addition to any warranties, although it would be a hassle and could mean small claims court, so may not be worth it ...

Doh! that was my initial reason for looking on the site this evening, my spoiler has suddenly peeled like crazy. I thought I may be able to remove it and have it sprayed so I looked on the Inside of the boot trim and can't find any fixing bolts anywhere???

.... Bonded :-(

The wrap looks really neat but I'm too far away to even consider it. (nice one for putting the pictures on) I'll have to take the car and have it sprayed.

The bonded spoiler really is a pain in the arse. My SE is in the body shop at the moment having it repainted and it went in to Skoda on Monday to have it assessed by their warranty department (well, photos and micrometer readings taken and passed on to warrant). Should find out tomorrow or Friday whether they're going to contributing to the repair - they won't be having nearly £500 off me for cambelt/waterpump/service if not!

....me too on '04 VRS.........£120 paint bill.....looks nice again now though!!
