1.2tsi remapped finally!

Featured Replies

Yep got it mapped today, here are some facts:

  • Can be mapped via OBD, takes minutes
  • HUGE difference in top end pull from 4000rpm
  • HUGE difference in acceleration from 80kph+
  • HUGE difference in take off speed, lights up the wheels in first through to 2nd!.
  • Lots more torque
  • Car is more smoother and makes less noise?! (weird)
  • No vibrations in traffic when crawling
  • 144bhp and 258nm torque

All in all its the car it should of been from the factory, car is supposed to make 144bhp and 258nm of torque, my butt dyno agrees that its very similar to a stock 1.8tsi in the octavia (drove back to back).

Its really very noticeable, the stock car feels very flat from 4000rpm onwards, now it just kicks in like a turbo car should, it just pulls right to the redline!.

My map was done by MTM in Taiwan, i have a nice black badge to put on the back of the car, kinda funny as that badge is usually for RS6's and the like :giggle:

Heres a dyno from the fabia:

Very nice!

258Nm out of the 1.2TSi is very impressive!

Brill, thanks Yeti-RS.

258NM is definitely more than expected! So are you going to keep the Yeti then?

Its staying, though it isn't the car for me (bootwise) 2 things made it stay:

1) the safety of 7 airbags vs 2 on the combi

2) Its a new car and the octavia is basically 7 years old, big depreciation to come next year with the new model.

We have kids so the 1st point really hammered reality into my skull!.

So i used the money i saved to tinker with the yeti, so far its hit and miss, it seems the 1.2tsi uses the el'cheapo front end from the 1.6 beetle which does not allow brake upgrades....... so no Porsche brakes.

Which is a BIG problem as the standard brakes are shocking, even the MTM boss himself commented on how awful they are, i carry 200kgs daily too so imagine how it important this is to me. :'(

2 airbags! Is that a unique TW spec? How about some GTI or 170 TDI brakes?

On another note, could the standard DSG or 6 spd manual handle 258Nm?

Though this uses everything from the VAG group there is a strange model built by VW that uses different axles/subframe.

It comes on the old beetle 1.6 and the new golf mk6 1.6, the brakes are built in as one piece...... really weird.

As for the DSG, i did detect a sort of slip in 2nd to 3rd just now, but it might just be an odd gear change which happens sometimes.

250nm is what the 1.8tsi comes with and they equip that with the 7-DSG.

The octavia over here has 2 airbags and 15'' steel wheels :giggle:

I used some of my BBS wheels money for this remap

I've a feeling Yeti-RS is about to find out ;)

Couldn't find any details of the 6 speed manual (would apreciate if someone could share tha data), but the 7 speed DSG seem to take upto 250Nm, 258Nm isn't too far off. http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/transmissions-and-drivetrains/dsg

Dont read too much into that, the 1.8tsi makes more than 250nm in reality, plus the 258nm is a 'best of' run, so probably makes just under it on a day to day basis.

There are guys on the fabia forum kicking out 350nm through the gearbox and not having any problems.

Should be fine then! Enjoy the new found power!

Not forgetting all the remapped 1.8tsi DSG's out there with much more than 258Nm emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I drove one of those mapped 1.8's with the DSG, its ballistic!

The 1.8 is really restricted in stock form........ sad i cant have one :(

Without wishing to sound like a boring old f**t (but I am), given the lack of opportunity to upgrade brakes, and given that you have kids, is it sensible to upgrade the power as you have? I don't think 7 airbags substitute for brakes.

Its not a boring old fart thing to say at all, you are 100% correct :'(

I was buying the brakes yesterday and remapping today, only at the last second after mapping did i find out the bad news, its a PQ35 platform car and all parts just swap about so you have to forgive me for not thinking the worst.

I have a plan B, which is stainless lines and new pads........... come to think about it, maybe the pads have had it, i do live in a stop/start city and have racked up 18,000kms.

Thanks for taking it so well! And it's nice to know that there are people out there apart from me who sometimes make decisions in the wrong order!

I am obsessed with brakes, i started out on superbikes before driving so i fully appreciate the ability to stop better!.

My brakes arent god awful, they just arent up to the high standards of a modern VAG car, really strange :S

I am actually on the verge of bringing it into the dealer...... maybe i should, but where on the warranty does it say i can bring it in for 'crap brakes opinion from owner' :wonder:

Hi Yeti-RS. I am most interested in your upgrade; sounds amazing so do enjoy it.

I have two grumpy old man queries:

1. Why did your original post include the line "Heres a dyno from the fabia:" or have I misunderstood something?

2. Not only does your car now sport an MTM badge (nice!) but you also have a Nurburgring sticker on it. Did you really drive the 'Ring in that car. I want that video please!!

Good luck to you and yours!

I have driven the ring before but not in this car as i am 1000s of miles away on a little island!.

The fabia uses the same engine as my yeti... its just an example of what it puts out mapped.

Its not all good though as i just found out something.............

Heatsoak

I am very sensitive to heatsoak, i can feel when a car pulls timing since i have owned quite a few turbo cars in this boiling hot country!.

My Yeti pulled timing while trying to record a 0-100 run, it was actually slower than when the car was stock :o

To be fair it was 90% humidity when i did it, and it was after 4 attempts of clean launching from a standing start, time will tell if this map causes the car to overheat and pull timing :S

What's "pull timing "?

Is it when you clock a slower time?

Turbo cars pull timing usually when they get too hot, its in regards to ignition timing...... i guess the correct term is retard timing.

In simple terms 'safe mode' so you can't blow the engine up emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Safemode would be limp mode with disco lights flashing up on my dash.

What i experienced is very common for turbo cars in hot countrys, on the golf forums you will find guys in places like florida complaining about the very same thing and running vag-com logs showing the car reducing timing.

Car is much faster on the highway and gets up steep slopes much easier, which is all i really wanted, so

Would a new induction kit help? Something along the lines of BMC or Pipercross Viper. I had one on my old car (though not turbo), it worked well and definitely reduces heat soak from an open or panel filter.
