DRL bulbs

Featured Replies

As previously reported, one of my DRL bulbs blew the other week, so just turned them off. Thinking about the weekend and how it could have made a difference today I rang a dealer to order a replacement.

After going through the usual questions he wanted to know why I needed one, and thought it should have been replaced under warranty, after checking the car details on the Skoda system.

However, he couldn't find themm in the parts system, and after looking under several sections, has now had to go to Skoda to ask what is going on! Good isn't it?? :wonder:

Does anyone know if VW use the same bulb? If so, I have a friend who works for a VW dealer. :giggle:

None of the suppliers here list them or intend to do so, having asked them. There are none on Amazon and Ebay only has the LED type, which someone had a problem with.

Hi!

I am also looking to replace the DRL bulbs in my 2011 Octy. My reason for changing the bulbs is purely cosmetic tho (I want a more whiteish light).

Please give us an update if you sort this out, I would too like to know what kind of bulb to replace the factory ones with.

Good luck! :)

Could be wrong but the lense at the top right of this image showing a fog / DRL function looks very similar to the Yeti's set-up...

Whether it is the same as the Octi one doesn't matter. The problem is getting hold of them!!

Chasba,

you appear to be after the LED ones. I'm not. I want the standard Skoda bulbs. Note my comment about previous problems a Yeti owner had.

Silver,

yes I know, P13W. Standard Skoda Yeti DRL fitting, and I'm sorry but I don't reaaly care about the Audi A4. I just want to know where to get that bulb!!

Wow, somebody got out of bed on the wrong side this morning. There's the thanks we get for trying to help.

The point of my post was to show that the bulb isn't unique to Skoda, its a common bulb/holder from Philips that several manufacturers use for the DRL function, including VW and Audi.

Llanigraham,

I've been told I should be looking for a PY21W bulb (not LED). Probably not the same bulb as in your DRLs then. Hope I haven't hijacked your thread in any way. Again, good luck.

I have been doing a bit of research into the P13W bulbs as I was quite keen to change it for white light.

Currently I think the only LED ones are made by some American company for the Chevy Camaro, they are really expensive though!

I know the bulb isn't unique to Skoda, but you try buying one.

Neither of the suppliers listed in the Freedom section stock them , and I've asked them do they intend to and they say not. None are listed on Amazon or Ebay, plus Skoda don't seem to list them in their dealer's spares catalogue. Therefore I think my very mild "rant" is justified. :(

And having been up the pub tonight and spoken to the local Peugeot parts man, they don't have them either!! :(

Perhaps Silver if you can provide the VW or Audi part number, which isn't mentioned in any way in that piece you included, it might help.

And perhaps considering the blasted run around I've had to do with insurance companies and car hire companies for most of the day, after the crap weekend I had, I'm entitled to be a little bit p@@@ed off!!

You are indeen Graham, and I've had days like that too, where you just need to vent off some steam.

Hope your successful in you search, and If I find anything out about the bulbs, I'll be sure to contact you. emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

Hi Graham,

looking at the Russian parts catalogue then it suggests that the part number is N 107 373 01 however clicking on the number which takes you to an ordering page the description changes to bulb holder; might just be lost in translation :wonder:

Hope you get it sorted,

TP

Not suitable for RHD it says

Possibly, but it does prove they are available (somewhere!!)

Without reading all of this and the previous thread I can't remember if you have actually removed the bulb yet?

Worth doing as it will have the manufacturer either stamped or printed on the bulb, then contact a supplier of said bulbs with ALL of the info that is on the bulb.

I don't disagree, but let's not take it out on other fellow members trying to help hey?

As I've already mentioned Philips are the main (but not sole) manufacturer of these new and unique long life tungsten P13W DRL bulbs and they are used across many different manufacturers.

I rung them up and questioned availability, they admitted it was limited for Joe Public. They also mentioned that they would be available to buy for all on their online shop in the "next few weeks".

I also contacted my local Skoda dealer who confirmed that the Yeti DRL bulb is a P13W with part number N10737301.

It lists at £30.28 + VAT (£36.34) each. The high cost is due to their long life (although not in this case) and the fact that the bulb comes complete with the plastic connector.

He also mentioned that they were covered under warranty, availability was good and that they could have one ready for collection on Friday if needed.

Thank you for that info, I shall now get back on to my dealer about the warranty. They say they are NOT covered!

Email now sent to Customer Services, following my conversation with a different dealer.

We shall see.

So I emailed Benzinfabrik asking why they wouldnt work on RHD vehicles, and yes I know leds are 'polarity sensitive'.

Their reply -

"Hello,

If on one side of the vehicle, the LED is not lit, then the polarity is reversed.

Be reversed in the case, the Plus & Minus line.

Then, the LED should work without problems.

Freundliche Grüße,

benzinfabrik Service Team"

His English is better than my german but :wonder:

If Philips bulbs are 30+ quid each when (if) I eventually own a Yeti this might be a consideration

Interesting, I have the spare bulb kit for the bi-zenon lights (BDB 630 002) in a sealed unopened packed - I have just checked it (I just put it under the boot floor) and this does NOT have the PW13 12v 13w bulb !! - but it does have a hole in the foam that looks as if there should be a bulb of that shape/size in there - might take it up with the local dealer ....

Also I understand that the price for both type of kits is about £14 (I think that's what I paid for mine??) how come they charge about £36 for a single PW13 bulb ??

I have had a call back from Skoda Customer Services!

The bulbs are not covered by the vehicle warranty, and any reference to "lifetime" will now be removed from all future publicity brochures.

However, if I purchase a bulb from Skoda Parts it then has a 2 year warranty! They did not see that the 2 different things were incompatible !?!

So if the bulb has a 2 year warranty, yours will still be covered. My Yeti is older than yours and is now 21 months old so my DRL bulbs are, technically, in warranty. QED.

I can see the need to remove "lifetime" as this could easily refer to the life of the car.

That was exactly my point, but she was quite adamant that the 2 year warranty would ONLY apply to bulbs bought from Skoda Parts, and not to those fitted to a new car.

Since we are off to France on Tuesday I shall leave it until we get back, and then sort something out.

I would say that the time has come to remind the supplying dealer about the 'Sale of Goods Act (Implied terms)' - he supplied the vehicle so your contract is with him, and it's not doing what it was advertised to / should do, it's his problem - he should fix it at his expense and he can then discuss reimbursment with SUK!!
