Speed indicator in mph ?

Featured Replies

Just took delivery of our 2010 Yeti 2.0 TDI 140 Elegance on Friday. Can you change the speed indicator on the multi function display to read in mph ? Haven't found a way to do it as yet, and I cannot see it mentioned in the handbook.

Thanks

Pete

Welcome Pete,

Yes it is possible to do this - BUT you need VCDS to enable it.

Do a search as it's been covered many times before (you need to change the car's country to Australia)

HTH.

Due to current eu rules you have to have a speed reading in kmh and as there isn't one on the dials the mfd shows kmph. This has been raised before and I do believe there's a fiddle it's on the site somewhere.

Hope you enjoy your yeti

You can get around all that complicated stuff by setting you time zone to Australian time emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

They, like us, drive on the CORRECT left side, and use MPH not all the EU Km RUBBISH emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

But you will need to change it back for service warranty work emoticon-0105-wink.gif

And congrats on your new toy emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

1st point,

No you do not need to have a speed reading in both MPH and KPH, what you do need though is be able to display both MPH and KPH (but not necessarily at the same time)

2nd point,

It is hardly 'a fiddle' what you need to do is change (the UK) adaptation to an Australian one - it is still a genuine Skoda setting.

Once the settings have been changed you can turn the KPH display back on at any time via the maxidot display (I believe ALL non maxidot equipped cars cannot be changed though and they are stuck with the UK setting - I have however only checked this on one car without maxidot)

HaaHaaHaa, I got there first Gizmo emoticon-0110-tongueout.gifemoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

As I said above this can be re enabled within a couple of seconds if you really want to, I have not bothered and had no issues come warranty time.

If you need to flip it back to KPH for any reason using the Maxi-dot, can you go back to MPH without issue or do you need the VCDS again?

Once it has been changed with VCDS (so the country is set to Australia rather than UK) when you want to go back and forth (so the KPH is either shown or turned off) this can then be done on the maxidot - and takes less than 5 seconds

VCDS is only needed for the very 1st time.

Don't suppose you'd like to come and do our Yeti in Essex would you?

We've another coming in Late September/early October... maybe do the two at the same time?

Beer tokens on offer... :D

I don't normally get up to the M25 when I am off (I drive round it often enough in a 44 tonner!) BUT it might be a possibility on the Wednesday 31st August on my return from Shark

PM me some details of where you are please.

I'm confused!

Reading this thread, and others before, does the Australian VCDS mod merely disable the small 'kph' display in the lower section of the MFD screen (in which case I don't see the point) or does it add a large 'mph' display in the main display that can be scrolled through with range, mpg etc. (which I can understand, but then I quite like displaying range or mpg)?

It enables an extra option in the maxidot so you can display a large mph and the outside temp where the kmh is. Otherwise you just check the box and you have your kmh back and no large mph.

Hope that helps.

Changing the country only adds the large digital MPH display, HOWEVER it then allows you to turn the KPH display off, something you can't do when it is set to the UK.

I've not tried it yet Gizmo, but can you have the large mph and kmh displayed at the same time?

No you can have the large MPH or small KPH you cannot have both activated at the same time.

Sorry if you thought I was implying otherwise :giggle:

That is what I thought. Thanks for confirming that.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

I can do this for anyone coming on holiday to the SW. You have to drive past me to get there. :D

This is the catch question new owners ask, as I did in naivety . We all see this display in KPH and think "My settings are wrong" then you learn its UK legislations fault and to change it will invoke prosecution under The Construction and Use of Vehicles Act and you will get a gaol sentence not exceeding three years. Or you need to understand WMPZ or similar remapping. You must or must not have Maxidot, then to cap it all you need to invoke Australian settings ( but only on Wednesdays!). Does anybody at Skoda ever read these forums? because it would be nice to configure my vehicle, myself as to how I want my information to be displayed and to do it without going to my dealer or using a laptop or telling the system that I am in Peru.

Actually in Australia whilst they do drive on the 'proper' side of the road, all their speedos show KPH, as do the speed limit signs, and of course the distance signs...

Zoom in on the speed limit signs on the left of this shot - taken on the New England Highway in NSW in March 2009. We were driving a (hired) Mitsubishi Outlander, with the speedo (& oddometer) in KPH

I am a little curious as to why the UK Yeti's display seems arraganged so awkwardly. In the EU (DK) version, I can freely select via the maxidot to show speed in large KM/H or MPH. I can also decide to display the fuel consumption in km/l; l/100 km; MPG (UK) or MPG (US) - although why the latter I do not understand.

That's because your speedo is in km/h - just like Australia. If your primary speedo is in km/h, you can select the secondary speed in maxidot as mph.

US gallons are smaller than UK gallons.

Clearly, but no plans for Yeti in the USA Marked. Maybe a common software between the Skoda and othre VAG cars sold in the USA marked?

The US liquid gallon is used in Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Liberia, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and the United States.

Skoda are also gearing up to start selling in Canada (which uses UK gallons) and expect some 'leakage' to the US.

They are also testing the water in the US. I have seen at least one Skoda Superb in the US Virgin Islands (St Thomas).
