Mk2 Octavia ICE install process photos

Featured Replies

Here are a few photos I took during my ICE install earlier this year. Possibly a few useful pointers in here for people, like the location of the grommet for running the power cable in from the bay. Me and Dan did this in a few hours in a community center car park and the under cover car park at Morrisons when it started raining. All in all quite a fun job.

Note the rain guard behind the speaker

I subsequently cut those studs right down with a hacksaw for side impact crash safety

I've included this embarrassing picture as an illustration of what not to do. Unless you enjoy picking dynamat out of your window mech. I didn't enjoy it.

Nice! I like where you've mounted the amp, whats with the big 'door' on the side of the boot lining though, I don't have that on my car?

My car goes in to get some stuff done to it next Wednesday, going for Pioneer TC-E170Ci speakers in the doors fed from a Hertz 2-channel amp in the boot and a Vibe 12" sub with intetgrated amp in the boot too.

Looking very tidy! :)

Nick

What are the speakers - make, model etc?

Also what have you done with the tweeters? I've thought about fitting them into the mirror trim further up.

Nick,

Thanks very much for those pictures, thats answered all my questions

Yup, Pioneer TS-A171Cis - the tweeters are where the original OEM tweeters were. Fit perfectly.

Shopping list from Car Audio Direct was...

1 PHO-4/927 - Phonocar 4/927 Rain Stop £3.99

1 DYN-XTREME-DOOR - Dynamat Xtreme Door Kit £64.99

1 CON-CT25VW05 - CT25VW05 Speaker Fitting Adapter for VW Transporter / Golf V / P £5.99

1 RAP-PKBL1 - Raptor PKBL1 800W Amp Wiring Kit 10AWG £7.99

1 PIO-TSA171CI - Pioneer TS-A171Ci £89.99

Shipping & Handling (Delivery) : £6.99

Total: £179.94

(includes VAT £28.83)

besides that, a bag of nuts and bolts from Wickes and some incredibly overpriced spade connectors and heat shrink from Halfords (nowhere else open).

Sub and amp were old ones I've had for nearly 10 years. You could pick up similar for virtually nothing off ebay or classifieds.

Amazing value upgrade. Very pleased with the sound. Those Pioneer TS-A171Cis are incredible for the money.

I found some of these on Ebay

They stop the need for cutting into your OEM wiring and can be had quite cheaply off ebay (£2.99)

search for 'Speaker Adaptor for VW Golf IV,VW Passat,Seat,Skoda ETC' I bought mine from jt.audio-stereospares
