Misfire ?

Featured Replies

Only had the vrs for two weeks, have noticed what feels like a slight misfire when starting the car from cold. When on idle. Doesn't do it when warm. Does this seem to happen to anyone else ?

Cheers

its a known fault. Mine does it when cold and revs are @ 11rpm. once it drops to 750-800rpm, its fine.

Same here, I dont let mine idle too long when cold, just start up and drive away carefully until warm.

I don't know what people class as a "missfire" but I would be hesitant to say that, like everyone else mine has a bit of a rough idle when cold, but isn't that just "normal" ? a characteristic of this engine? (mine is now 14500 miles, been through first service with no faults)

I certainly don't have any "misfire" fault codes (as the the guy with a genuine missfire [faulty plug if I recall] had, which activated the warning light...) ..

lets put it this way, does anyone have an engine that is as smooth and quiet when cold as when warm? hhmmmm probably not.

Its not a misfire, its a lumpy idle iirc - similar to what the later MK1 vRS's had. I had the same from my 06 plate vRS, would rev higher, be lumpy then settle down. Its due to them having to meet low emmissions.

Best to let it idle into the 700-800 zone before driving as can be lumpy setting off otherwise.

I suspect if it were to breathe a bit easier and have a free flowing exhaust then it would probably be better? or worse? :giggle:

Misfire on cold start - replaced injector on cylinder 3 - problem solved.

The dealers did have to keep the car overnight and start the engine from cold so they could replicate the fault.

That's only if it comes up with a warning light though?

Same here, i have a very rough cold start. I have cheked by vcds vag com and there was multiple misfires during warm up but no faults. My dealer have said that is normal for tsi engines.

Misfires dont always bring up an EML or fault code though, only when its severely pinking or misfiring will it do that. There is a misfire count i believe on VCDS that can be read.

@Fromax Mine does the same. Something to bear in mind though,is misfires often result in coking up the spark plugs, which of course will make the misfire issue more prevalent. Ive now done 5k and am considering changing my plugs for this reason, and the fact im mapped so the plugs probably work that bit harder.

Err I had a misfire and epc light on

Took it to the dealers who read the code and printed out for me to see.

Engine temp 51c , 6780 rpm in second, ambient temp 19c.

Basically had picked it up and revved the nuts off it and it doesnt like it when cold

Scary how much the car records about the conditions etc, must be there for skoda to argue the toss over warranty claims.

Although makes you wonder why they can't just have a variable rev limit as in bmw m cars until the engine is warm

Almost 7000 rpm at 51c is not good - i'd wait til 80c for those revs lol

Aye, I would normally but I'd just picked it up after waiting 6 months and couldn't wait !!!!

lol :)
