mapped 1.2 as fast as stock 160ps 1.4tsi!

Featured Replies

Just bought myself a new golf gti as my 2nd car, during the past week i was also considering a scirocco 1.4tsi, i test drove one this morning and found it made less torque but slightly more top end than my remapped 1.2tsi Yeti!.

The mapped 1.2 feels more lively and sharp (almost N/A), has lots more midrange but doesnt quite have the last 1000rpm pull the 1.4 did.

On the road in traffic the Yeti was faster and easier to drive fast as it required less revs and effort, im sure a mapped 1.4tsi would pee all over the 1.2 but im just comparing stock here!.

Both cars had 7-DSG and the sciroccos DSG seemed to be mapped different, it changed gears faster and more aggressively than mine.

I was pleasantly surprised by this, surprised enough to spend the extra and buy the 2.0tsi GTI instead.

Anyway i thought this would be useful information for people considering different engines.

I have 10 years of experience tuning, adding turbo kits and mapping cars and bikes, my 'rear end' is very sensitive to torque/bhp, this isn't some spotty 18 year old making uneducated opinions :giggle:

slightly offensive towards 18 year old's id say, some may know more about what your talking about than you, you never know

The comment was only directed at eighteen year olds with spots :)

Brill, thanks for the update.

I will rephrase to teens then...

Wow your 1.2 is awesome. It sounds really quick!!

Haha you sound like the 18 year old!

I see Shark has a 1.4TSi tune that is ~160bhp. That's got to be an interesting option for petrol Yeti's not needing the 4x4!

What do you think of the new Golf Gti Mk6 then.. :)

I dont understand, You were yelling about small boot in Yeti 7 days ago and consider to sell it, and now You bought GOlf!? :)

Remove seats in Yeti, its a van for work.

GTI will be used to cart children around in from this point on (family trips etc)

So the Yeti is the work horse and the GTI is the 'sunday' car.

Wow, I go away for four weeks and come back to this. :giggle: The Yeti had below par interior quality and you couldn't make the cargo space work so it was being sold. Octavia estate was the replacement due to needing the extended boot space but now you have kept it and added a GTI to the fleet. I need to go read the interim posts I think...

Good luck with the new GTI - post some photos of the Yeti and the Golf together - thats a good pair for the driveway I'd say.
