Winter Wheels bought

Featured Replies

Bought these on ebay and fitted two today to check they went on ok and see how they looked. I'm pretty pleased with them. The wheels are in reasonable condition, pretty much perfect on the outside but some paint bubble on the inside which I've just painted over with silver hammerite as I don't want to spend money on refurbing. Just need the winter rubber now, thinking about Goodyear UltraGrip 8+ for about £120 fitted.

The car looks a bit high on the pics as it wasn't moved following being jacked up.

Nice, They look sturdy enough.

Can I ask, did you lift the front of the car with that mini trolley jack? I couldn't find a suitable safe jacking point at the front which I could get the jack underneath and still leave room for an axle-stand.

very stealthy - you made your vrs look like a 1.2!

Yes, I just used a small bit of wood to go under the jacking point that you used with the standard jack behind the sill.

Stealth rules, especially in winter :)

Is the price for the tyres each or as 4??

Each. Why, can you get tyres for £30 from somewhere?

Look fine. From an A4 originally? Look familiar.

£120 for 16" winter rubber does sound a touch steep. But I can well imagine suppliers are applying a larger mark-up this time round, following two pretty bad winters!

Pretty much going rate for premium branded winter tyres i think now.

Yes from an A4.

Was looking at the same tyres myself as they get top ratings in tyre tests, and Camskill have them in betwen £87 and £100 each depending on the load index (in 205/55R16). However I ended up going for the fully-fitted from Mytyres instead as it worked out cheaper (and easier, can't be botheed with the faff of wheels, tyres, fitting them etc) to get in one place.
