My Yeti mixing it with the big boys...

Featured Replies

Hi guys, thought some of you may be interested in some off roading photos from the weekend. I had one days notice and tbh I nearly didnt make it due to having had a bad back last week but as the weather was looking to be pretty good and I was under some pressure from friends to attend... I thought why not! :giggle:

Hope this link works...

Looks like the Yeti was having fun

Ahh, they're on Facebook....

Not to worry - I'm sure you had fun Lee

Looks like fun :-)

Your SM doesn't look very muddy though.......emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Great photos! What response did you get from the LR, Jeep & Rangie owners? It looks to me like your SM acquitted itself very well.

Looks great!

AWESOME photos, thanks for sharing

It was by far the most advanced off road course I've done but the Yeti did pretty well. The outright traction the haldex 4 system generates is gob smackingly good imo and the off road button was genuinely useful in softening up the throttle response on the tricky bits, providing down hill descent control and hill hold facility. The main downside is the lack of under belly clearance compared to the more serious kit being driven around. Then you remember that the Yeti isn't a highly modified Jeep Cherokee or Disco and aligned with it's true market competitors; more run of the mill family cars, you realise it's actually got most of the likely 'off road' circumstance 100% covered.

Quite surprisingly, I only heard positive comments from people. A couple of the Suzuki owners directly complimented the vehicle and 'my balls' :giggle: for putting it through it's paces and a couple of friends got comments from fellow Jeep owners, along the lines of 'it's surprisingly capable!' and 'we can't believe he's not needed a tow out of anything yet'.

My only problem is, after this last off road session I now really yearn for something more specialised. :smirk:

Have you ever considered fitting a snorkel to your SM?

Nice pic's,

Used to like playing in the mud

Simple answer to that; join your local 4x4 Response Team and go on some of their training events!

I went to Boxgrove Pit which is a Core4x4 owned offroad site. That was by far the muddiest place I've ever been to. Got completely stuck and had to get someone to winch me out but had to strap the winch car to a tree so that it didn't get dragged in.

There is also the place at Slindon which is bigger and more fun with a lot more terrain to try, might be worth going there? They have marshals so if you do get stuck they'll get you out.

Wow!!!!!!! Now that looked like fun! Remember next time Lee to give ALL of us notice too to either join and/or just come with!

Sound like the Yeti was as impressive as always.

Where did you go lee?

Johann, it was a real last minute invite tbh but I may do another one during the winter. This course (Mike - Essex Offroad centre) however was far too tough for the Yeti. It needed an additional four to five inches of ground clearance min. and better axle articulation to stand a chance of clearing 85% of the routes there. I spent most of the day in a highly modified Wrangler and Cherokee as I wasn't prepared to damage my car. Don't get me wrong however, for a crossover vehicle it's abilities are top drawer and likely to cope with 99% of what the average Yeti buyer expects. :-)

A very muddy Yeti

Wow! Great pic's -

Took my new Yeti into the Australian outback last weekend. For those interested google earth Moonlight Head near Melbourne, Australia. I was genuinely very impressed and felt very validated in getting a more literal 4x4 rather than a pretty Faux x 4. The trickiest part of the route were the wash outs where rain had taken large parts of the track away and left deep gullys and pot holes to travers. It was only when I got home I wondered at the state of my nice new 17" alloy wheels, but after washing there wasn't the slightest mark on any part of the car. A very happy new 'drop bear' owner B)

Took mine off tarmac and on to some very muddy and rutted tracks to visit some friends up in the hills today. Yeti performed admirably but is now plastered in mid and glaur :-)

Hi shoutj74, welcome to Briskoda.

Where are your photos??? emoticon-0105-wink.gif

well this was my first venture into the hills with the Yeti. Much less nerve wracking visiting our friends than it was in an Octavia, always worried what was being scraped off the bottom of the car in the Octy.

We had to do a couple of miles along badly rutted tracks that were deep in mud and water in places.

Yeti 1.2 proved more than up to the job, very pleased with it.

I just need to wash it now
