Attention to all Fabia VRS Owners

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I read a few months back there was a potential ECU update for the Fabia VRS, dealers confirmed this today via email. They said they need to check my current software version first to confirm I do need the update, I imagine I do considering I have never had it updated since December 2010, probably even before then when the car was a demo car.

I believe the update has been labelled as to fix misfiring issues, which some of you may notice when cold, I certainly have on numerous occasions. I could be wrong though, someone may back me up on this.

If this is the case, I remember a tuning company saying it is paramount that this update is carried out before any remapping.

Anyway, give your dealer a bell, they should have an update for you depending on how old your car is.

Cheers,

Stu.

i think should have been done on service interval as updates are done then ?

interesting, my car can be a bit lumpy at idle when you first start it, but it disappears once you've driven probably 100 meters. Just assumed it was a quirk, I'll get this done shortly !

Mine still misfires when it's warm. Bloody pain in the arse. Did hear about this but i've a service coming up soon anyways so I'll just get it all done at the same time :)

Sounds like the normal double injection to heat up the catalytic

converter when starting a cold TSI engine. The engine runs rich for a little while...

But should your car feel physically uncomfortable due to it shaking about? =/

Our very very occasional misfire under hard accelleration has been attrubuted to low octane fuel

I still wont pay for 98 or 99.....Rip off!! It made no difference when I filled up except for no misfire..

Still the same MPG too

No.

Personally I only really notice the heating cycle when idling after a cold start as a vibration as well as the much higher fuel consumption. Can't say I really notice it when I drive away even immediately after a cold start.

Yeah, it's fine when I'm driving, but when I come to a stop the car is VERY lumpy at idle :( 500 Miles till I get a service anyways, shall be sorted then :)

You don't use 98 or 99 ron??

I really see no reason not to use the recommended 98 fuel, even though 95 is "ok" but with reduced power etc..

The difference in yearly expense between using low octane vs higher is probably less than what a single heavy night at a night club would be. :coffee: :cocktail:

Some things are just not worth saving with, especially if you like your car to work like it's intended to... I'd rather skip that one night out... ;)

agreed. the engine is designed for 98 octane.. why deliberatly make the ECU retard the timing to prevent detonation? super all the way :)

Never

Never

Why buy a car with a performance engine and then not run it on the proper fuel or am i just missing the point??

Could even dilute your fuel down with some water to save a few more pennies. OrWhy not cover half your air intake to restrict the air avalible aswell. Go the whole. way a fit another cat to really restrict the engine.

Wonder if the measly few quid a year you save will ofset the cost of a new engine??

we get raped at the pumps as it is. might as well enjoy the beasting

I love how an ECU update thread has become yet another 95 vs 98 ron thread! :giggle:

On the, off-topic-topic, I saw a guy filling a new Focus RS with 95 not too long ago and just wondered what he was doing. Surely an engine like that would be better filled with 98? If i'm filling my 1.4 with it because it "requires it" then he must be insane not to do the same???

On a lighter note, mine is booked in for next Friday :)

This thread has nothing to do with fuel RON, it will still most likely have the intermittent start up misfire fault if you put in 95 or 98 in. Period.

Also, 98 is better, haha :)

Mind you I just use Vpower......won't touch Tesco 99ron after the "mix up" they had a couple of years back which FUBARed alot of peoples fuel systems etc!!! B)

Got a garage doing 102 about 20 miles from me but if you try to use it the guy comes running saying its race fuel.
