Ready for Winter, rubber mats.

Featured Replies

My Elegance came with black carpet mats-O/E I think- which are smart and fit well. I've gone to winter tyres and 16s and given the car a really good clean and 3 protective coats 1 of Auto Glym polish and two of Ultra surface protector to give the paint the best chance of remaining good as the weather deteriorates as will my enthusiasm for full day cleaning.

Thoughts turned to the interior and so I have acquired a set of proper- again I think Skoda- rubber floor mats.

Bought second hand and carefully cleaned they are now fitted so the inevitable wet/dirty feet of winter will not leave soiled and soggy carpet.

When the washers next need filling I will revert to a winter screen wash fluid.

Any other suggestions for keeping the Yeti good for the spring?

Anyone know the part number for the Skoda rubber boot mat?

I think you have it all covered mate

For me its

Winter Tires

Mats

Screenwash

Litre of oil as top up

Glass sealed with a nano tech coating

Rubbers around doors treated with 1z gummi pflege

Not sure whether you have the spare wheel?

If not I have a brand new Skoda rubber boot mat to move on...

Oh and use the VAG screenwash fo best effect

Agree the rubber mats are great for keeping clean and practical.

Re. Autoglym. I would have agreed with you 100%.....up till last week when, having seen it recommended on loads of other enthusiasts forums, I bought some Collinite 845 Insulator Wax. It's American and comes in pint bottles. Originally designed for electrical equipment outdoors. Got it from Ebay for £14.45 inc VAT and P/P. Once you've used it you'll never use Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection again...or anything else! It has NO cleaning properties so maybe you'd use the A.G. Resin Polish, as you've done, or something like 3M Imperial Handglaze Part No. 05990 which is a super cleaning polish - but the Collinite used on top of that gives an unbelievable shiny and strong protection. Birds mess still continued to eat away at the paint/clear coat with the A.G. but Collinite seems to shrug it off - and it beads like nothing I've seen before. Not exactly cheap but I'm hooked - they also do a twin pack on Ebay 0f 914 hard wax + 845 liquid. Shake it well and don't use it in hot weather......and decant it in to a shampoo bottle with a small hole to make it easier to dispense small measures from the bottle - you must use a thin coat. Admittedly, as I've got plenty Autoglym and DiamondBrite left, I'll use it up BUT will always go over it with the Collinite. It's also excellent for use on alloy or steel wheels - keeps the brake dust from sticking to the surface and it's a doddle to clean them.

Agreed on the Collinite,I use 915 as top coat and either Poorboys black hole on my dark R32 and Poorboys white diamond on the silver Yeti.

But where do you park them, Carisbrook? Coz wherever I park someone comes and parks 6" away from it and opens their doors on to it. I'm not as enthusiastic as yourself about achieving a superb finish, I'm sure, but I do like to keep them clean and looking nice and admit to being a bit paranoid over people dinging it when parking. Have often hankered after a Series Landrover and am sure people would keep further away from that.

R32 is always garaged and never goes near a supermarket car park or any car park for that matter.

Good thing on the collinite is once youve added the initial couple of coats justs needs topping up every other month to reproduce above shine.

I'm thinking of getting a old tank of a 240 Volvo Estate then wouldn't worry about where I parked that thing!

Oldstan, carisbrook,

Thanks for the collinite tip.

E-bayed some and got a decent coat on yesterday evening and the overnight rain has just rolled off-it does appear to give an excellent shine and -hopefully-an excellent basis for keeping the winter and salt from eating the paint surface.

Robin, thanks for the boot mat Yeti now fully fitted with Skoda rubber mats.

Thanks for troubling to advise of your purchase and experience. Always nice when people acknowledge info. Did you get the twin pack of hard wax and liquid, or the liquid alone? Have only got the liquid but so pleased with it will get the hard wax (914) as well.

I got the liquid and so far so good!

I'm not sure about the hard wax and would welcome any feedback-It sounds as though it may be more like hard work and so -although I own a cheapo Haflords polishing machine. My ageing and dicky shoulder joints make the supremely easy liquid most attractive.

Only downside is (as I discovered this morning-when reaching in to the back seat to lodge my laptop on the floor behind the front seat) the water runs so easily off the roof that I got a thorough splash!

I haven't seen any wax which beads so well. :S

Agree with all the above. The wax is, apparently, harder work but offers even more shine and protection - or so I read in the forums. Did you transfer the contents from the bottle in to a shampoo bottle? It makes it easier to squeeze a small amount on to your small, soft application cloth. Much easier to apply in cooler weather with no direct sun. I use a microfibre cloth to polish off. Keep shaking the bottle too. The water running off the roof is a PITA, I agree. Didn't get that with the old Austin A35 with the gutters :)

Big bonus is the birds poo doesn't seem to eat in to the paint. Just washes off. Ditto the dead flies on the front.

Can someone post a link to this magic liquid, please?

I'm confused now!!

Which one of those is the easy, simple one to put on?

Oldstan and I have both linked to the same product but different supplier.

No confusion as very similar in price.I can say the 845 is easy and simple.

I used a small pad of dense sponge bought from a local supplier "meguiars" being the brand name. Simply smear a very thin coat of the soft, almost liquid, paste over all the painted panels. Let it dry so it "hazes" and then polish it off with a microfibre cloth.

Not tried the variant that carisbrook has mentioned but it is the harder type of wax which ought to produce better results for a bit more elbow grease. It is pricier.

Exactly so! Can't see the scope for confusion myself. I gave you the link to the supplier I used - whose service was exemplary.....he's 20p dearer than the other one (who may well also be exemplary)....you just click on it and order it.

The hard wax (914) will be harder work and is dearer - but might well be even better? Haven't used it. (Yet)
